If You Have Time, DIY

It may take some time and dedication, but blow out your own hair. Paint your own toes. Do your own eyebrows. Consider it practicing self-care and also having the chance to be creative. Make it a ritual and love on yourself. Aside from the accomplished feeling you’ll end up with, and the fun you might have, think of how much money you’d be saving as well.

Don’t Sleep on the Dollar Store

You’ll be surprised at what you can find. Dollar Tree, for instance, has brands like Kiss, Dove, Covergirl, Secret, Wet n Wild and Palmer’s. Plus (in most cases), everything is a dollar! Some favorite pickups include things like dry shampoo, beauty blender sponges, double-edged razors, shaving cream, Q-tips, deodorant and toothpaste.

Brand Names Aren’t Everything

Shop off-brand and compare items and prices when you do. Many off-brand items have the same ingredients as their brand name counterparts and work just as well.

The Local Beauty Supply Store Never Disappoints

You may be able to find makeup brands that many MUAs and beauty influencers swear by like L.A. Girl and Iman. The lash variety is also incredibly vast at most beauty supply stores. There are so many lash options, whether you’re going for a natural or dramatic eye, you’re sure to find something you will like.

Try a Synthetic Wig

If you can’t afford the bundles or that customized wig unit, browse your local beauty supply store and try a synthetic wig. The trick is to use dry shampoo. It gets rid of the plastic look and the shine. If you purchase a lace-front unit, depending on how it’s made, you may still be able to customize it by plucking the part and hairline. There are also various videos on the Internet on how to revive a synthetic wig by boiling it. Yes, boiling it!

Press-On Nails Have Evolved

If you’re going to a special event or just hate having bare nails, many drugstores carry a variety of pricey-looking styles under $10. You’re bound to have someone mistake your press-on mani for a full set.

Shop Drugstore Brands

Several drugstores now carry notable brands like e.l.f. and NYX, which lean on the more affordable side. Maybelline’s Stay Matte Fit Me foundation works well for those with oily skin and is only $5 at some locations.

Another fave for makeup is ColourPop Cosmetics. You can buy foundation, concealer and powder for $20.

Places like Amazon, eBay, and even Sams Beauty, an online beauty and hair superstore, have a discounted variety of some of your favorite items. Often times, depending on the site, you can find things for the wholesale price.

Sign up For Rewards and Use Your Coupons

When you sign up for rewards programs, you may come across a steal. Sometimes it’s coupons, store bucks, or a special promotion like buy one get one free. If you’re a CVS shopper for instance, then you know the deal.

You can find quality and trendy clothing and accessories at the thrift or “vintage” stores, even if they’ve been lightly used. You may even be able to find your favorite brands and items with tags still attached. There’s some truth to the idea that shopping at thrift stores on the “nicer” parts of town yields better results, but always pay attention to wear no matter where you’re thrifting.
