Marcus Black of “Love and Hip Hop” fame recently recorded a video that went viral. In it, Black claims that no man wants a woman who is 100% independent. See the full extent of his comments below.
My husband sent this to me over the weekend, trying to solicit a reaction. He found it particularly funny that Marcus chuckled to himself as he spoke about women gratifying themselves sexually.
I didn’t see the humor. Not only was the video unfunny, the thought was unoriginal. This idea that men need to provide financially, is a notion as old as time. There are still societies who operate under this construct. And in these places, women find themselves destitute and helpless when a man leaves them, whether voluntarily or involuntarily.
Very rarely, do we hear talk about the other ways men can provide in a romantic relationship. Instead of providing emotional support, providing excellent communication, or even a listening ear, Marcus somehow believes relationship problems will be solved by allowing a man to pick up the bill.
This sounds like a dictatorship more than a true partnership where each party assist and uplift each other as necessary. Those are the things we need as human beings. The things money can provide, we can attain ourselves.
