On Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta, Da Brat made it clear that she isn’t a big fan of Lil’ Mama. The former SoSo Def rep complained that the “Lip Gloss” rapper had a bad attitude to MC Lyte, who serves as Lil’ Mama’s mentor, and questioned why she would want to mentor her.
Da Brat also feels that Lil’ Mama shouldn’t being doing music and that she isn’t remorseful for the years-old incident where she hopped on stage with Jay Z and Alicia Keys.
Lil’ Mama responded to Brat via social media last night with a response that was nicer than expected.
“Although you may not understand me, like me or think I’m deserving of guidance and love,” she wrote in her caption of a picture of her, Brat and Jermaine Dupri. “I still love you and appreciate your contribution to hip hop. You are a legend, continue to empower the next generation. God bless you! P.S. You should smile more.”
After a visit to The Rickey Smiley Show, Da Brat felt like Lil’ Mama’s energy was weird was told Lyte about it. Once she spoke to her about it, Lil’ Mama expressed that she is tired of talking about it when it is already in the past. The Jay Z incident heavily affected Lil’ Mama’s career thereafter, and after being embarrassed and going on interviews to express her remorse (remember The Breakfast Club interview?), we understand her not wanting to talk about it.
