Body diversity is so important for today’s generation. Not only is it damaging to continue to show one-dimensional body shapes, it can create an unrealistic standard that women feel pressured to live up to. It is time we see ourselves truly represented in the brands we shop. I applaud companies like Fashion Nova for highlighting plus size women with their Fashion Nova Curve line, but the models in their 2-12 brand mimic an extreme hourglass shape that doesn’t represent the average woman either. True representation should be seen on both sides. Some retailers have taken into account that industry standard sizing doesn’t work for all women, thus expanding their advertising efforts to be more inclusive. Brands now use marketing tactics like reposting social media influencers to their accounts to promote their products, show diversity and increase brand awareness.

Recently UK retailer Pretty Little Thing went viral for an ad that showed the same outfit on women in varying sizes. The response was overwhelmingly positive. This is evidence that we are ready to see honest reflections of ourselves.

After reading the positive feedback about the PLT ad, it made me reflect on the brands that strive to make sure all sizes feel represented. Take a look at 10 fashion retailers that strive to show true body diversity.
