It can be hard enough for exes to come together to peacefully co-parent for the sake of their child. Now imagine just how much more complicated it can become when a new partner of either party enters the picture and has a say on what’s best for the kid. For some, it can certainly get messy and stay that way for the long-term.

But for others, with the well-being of the child or children at the forefront of everyone’s minds, things can actually work out well. An ex-wife or girlfriend and a new love can even strike up a friendship in the midst of trying to share parenting responsibilities. Take for example Adrienne Bailon and Israel Houghton’s ex-wife, Meleasa Houghton. Meleasa recently showed some love, publicly, to Adrienne for the role she’s played in the lives of the kids Meleasa shares with Israel.

“Congrats to @adriennebailon for winning the Emmy and thank you with all of my heart for being the best mother to our children @mariahrideau@lillie_houghton and @sonnyhoughton2see you soon in Cali Besos!!” she wrote.

To which Adrienne responded, “Thank youuuu! ♥ From the bottom of my heart! Love them beyond words. You look beautiful! 😘 Besos xo”

It was important to Meleasa for Adrienne to know how much their positive relationship means to her, so she reiterated her thanks.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart too for being so wonderful to our children,” she wrote. “Thank you for our gift of friendship and for the sweetness of you are….God is forever faithful 😘”

How sweet! And mature. Thankfully, there are a number of women who are forgoing pettiness for friendship and the sake of family. Hit the flip to see them.

Jada Pinkett Smith and Sheree Fletcher

“Thank you for loving my baby” is what Sheree Fletcher told Jada Pinkett Smith when they sat down to talk about sharing the parenting responsibilities of Sheree and Will Smith’s son, Trey. The women admitted their relationship started off rocky during the first episode of Red Table Talk, but they’ve built a strong bond.

“I did see your heart with Trey,” Sheree said of Jada’s relationship with Trey and how that brought them together. “I did see that you loved this kid. You really did. And I saw a woman who was doing the very best she could.”

Alicia Keys and Mashonda Tifrere

“Once you are willing to let go of those feelings, forgiving becomes easy,” Mashonda said about parenting with ex-husband Swizz Beatz following their 2010 divorce (they share son Kasseem Dean, Jr.), and with his new wife, singer Alicia Keys. “It’s an evolution to know you can reach that point as a human being.”

And evolution is right. The women are so cordial, Alicia supports Mashonda’s endeavors as a friend, and Mashonda appeared in Alicia’s video for the track, “Blended Family.”

Torrei Hart and Eniko Hart

While they’ve had some public ups and downs, Torrei Hart said she’s put pettiness aside for her kids Heaven and Hendrix, whom she shares with ex-husband Kevin Hart, and Eniko and Kevin’s son, Kenzo.

“I look at it like this – my kids, Kevin and Eniko’s baby, Kenzo, who I just actually had the chance to meet, and he’s so beautiful! He melted my little heart; he really melted my heart. So that’s number one, babies always bring joy,” she said.  “Number two, he’s now related to my kids, so when I see that my kids have a sibling and it’s family. Listen, at the end of the day, things happen. What happened was in the past, I’m so far removed from what happened years ago. I’ve done too much to get in a happy place to let anything steal my joy.”

Christina Milian and Lalonne Martinez

Lalonne, who is the wife of writer and singer The-Dream, with whom she shares three kids, is so friendly with his ex-wife Christina Milian, they joke about having a threesome on social media…

Misa Hylton, Kim Porter, Sarah Chapman and Cassie

It wasn’t the easiest road, but Diddy said he brought peace between the mother of his kids and girlfriend Cassie by having a family meeting.

“You have to take care of everybody,” he said. “If everybody is happy and you’re taking care of them and you’re respecting them, then you can have a meeting how like I had. A ‘Can we all just get along?’ meeting because it would be better for all of us.”

“That probably just happened this year with everyone, the whole squad,” Diddy added. “You have to start to treat your family like a tribe if you have other mothers of your children. The separatism starts to wear on the family as a whole. We all in it together. So, we might as well figure out how to co-exist, and they get along lovely. Laughing and talking and partying and dancing and chilling and shopping. Everything is good because they’re good people too. And Cassie’s a great woman. It wasn’t anyone versus anybody. It was just about honesty and making sure everybody’s clear. There were no problems because everybody’s very respectful as women. Just as themselves, they’re not really into fighting or beefing.”

Tameka “Tiny” Harris, Ms. Niko and Lashon Thompson

To be the big and (mostly) happy family T.I., Tiny and their brood of kids seemed to be on their former VH1 show, there has to be peace and understanding between not only TIP and the mothers of his kids, but also between the mothers. There certainly seems to be. When possible, the women come together as a united front to celebrate the children they all love.

Paige Butcher and Nicole Murphy

They might not be best friends, but Paige Butcher, who shares a daughter named Izzy with boyfriend Eddie Murphy, has love for not only Eddie’s many other kids, but also for ex-wife and mother of five of them (Miles, Bria, Zola, Bella and Shayne), Nicole Murphy.

Lauren Hashian and Dany Garcia

Divorce can actually bring people closer. Dany Garcia may have officially split from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in 2008, but she has continued to be his manager. The remarried beauty, who shares daughter Simone with the actor, has also gotten along swimmingly with his new love, Lauren Hashian, whom he shares two daughters with now.

Diane Alexander and Brenda Harvey-Richie

You know you’ve grown when you can go from whooping the tail of the woman who contributed to the end of your marriage to being friendly with her. According to Lionel Richie, that’s just how things are for his ex-wives, Brenda and Diane.

“I would invite both [to dinner] . . . but I just would not show up,” he joked. “They both have great taste and style . . . Diane is French classic, [Brenda] is country. There would not be any plates thrown. We passed that stage, thank God!”
