Remember when Jephte Pierre spent the first weeks of marriage calling new wife Shawniece Jackson a “stranger“? Well, they’re not strangers anymore. In fact, they’re about to be parents.
As we shared with you previously, Jackson revealed the day of the decision episode of Married at First Sight, that she is expecting their first child. In that episode, the pair decided to stay together, and during Tuesday evening’s post-decision day reunion, we had the chance to see the way in which she revealed the news to him. It included baby shoes to match the “baby steps” he’s famous for desiring in their relationship.
“We’re having a baby. I’m nervous and scared,” she said in the clip from last night’s episode after gifting him a baby shoe.
Pierre responded in a similar way, saying, “I always wanted to be a parent but I never imagined it to happen, like, so soon.”
Both parties were equally and admittedly taken aback by the news because they’ve only been married for a span of months and are still getting adjusted to married life. And now, they have to prepare to bring someone else into the picture.
“I’m scared. I don’t know. I don’t have it figured out,” she said. “I’m not a perfect person and I know you’re not a perfect person, but I know that you care. But I’m scared because we’re still trying to figure the whole marriage thing out. And we don’t have it figured out. And for this to happen I’m like, ‘What?!'”
But with the encouraging promise that they would be good parents and be a support to one another, the emotional scene ended on a positive and happy note.
“I promise that I’m right here,” Pierre said, “no matter what.”
And in a post-show interview with PEOPLE, Pierre said that despite his early concerns when he received the news, for him, “a baby is always a blessing.”
And as the oldest child of 14 and a teacher, he already has more experience than most with kids, so he’s excited.
“I want to be a proud, present father who shows and gives their child all the love I can possibly give,” he said. And he knows he can expect the same from his new wife.
“I have no doubt in my mind that Shawniece will be an amazing mother,” Pierre added. “She’ll be loving, caring and selfless. Any amazing quality a great mother should have, Shawniece already has and more.”
