Fantasia’s ‘Bittersweet’ Hairstyles: The Good & The Bad
For Fantasia “Bittersweet” was more than just a song. The term also applies to her hair. Since she’s been on our radar from her American Idol days, we’ve watched as her hair changed for both the better and the worse. Check a few of her hair hits…and misses.
OH YEAH!!!! Red hair is definitely fun, but there is something so shocking about the combination of this crimson hue and the style (which looks like her hair has finger waves or something that looks like those Snooki humps) that are just throwing me off. Add that to the fact that you can see her dark roots in the front and that she thought it was cute to rock this black catsuit and I’m pretty much too through.
It’s not often that we see Fantasia rocking a longer style. But maybe it’s something she should try more often because this asymmetrical look is truly working for her. The soft, side-swooped bang in contrast with the sharper draping piece is totally fresh.
Before it was pretty popular again to shave the side of your hair off a la Cassie or Salt-n-Pepa style , Fantasia was doing it. She, however, didn’t get much love or credit for it because she went for the Neapolitan ice cream look minus the strawberry. The two-tone blonde next to a long, shiny black bang just doesn’t work when thrown together like this, but I will say, her tapered sides are clean
Even though Fantasia is rocking a barely there hair type of look, it works. The look is sleek and harkens to the roaring twenties. Plus we have to mention how shiny this hair is looking!
This haircolor is fresh, but I don’t know what to call this thing sitting on the front of her head. It’s like a roll of extra hair that someone didn’t know what to do with and that they were leaving pinned up to curl–but then they just changed their mind last minute and thought it looked fabulous. Well, it doesn’t, it looks crazy. This look could have possibly been salvaged if they would have maybe tried to make a fun side bang with it, or hell, just took it off the front of her head, but no. This is the end result, and ladies and gentlemen take notes, because THAT is not hot.
This bang is giving us everything right now. It’s full, it’s glossy and it’s healthy. This bang adds dimension to an otherwise basic style. If you’re going to do a bang with a short cut, this is how it’s done!
Fantasia usually wears her hair at a short length, so this choppy blunt-bang haircut in all black everything was something different. However, maybe it’s because they were trying to be artistic and asymmetrical, but it just doesn’t fit her look. The fact that her whole entire eye is covered and that it looks like someone accidentally took some shears to the front of her head is strange. I’m down with doing something different, but this different is just a little “too” different for me.
A few months before her suicide attempt Fantasia appeared on Oprah to tell her story. While she talked about her financial struggles and her family members, I couldn’t help but notice that her hair was banging. The tapered back and the cascading front are completely flattering to her rounder face. Regardless of what her hair looks like, we really root for Fantasia. We hope she gets her mind and spirit aligned. And we always wish her the best.
