There are certain names that just have to be brought into a discussion on fine chocolate brothas — Morris Chestnut, Lance Gross, Idris Elba — and while we will forever cherish these tall glasses of chocolate milk, there’s a whole new slew of talented, charming (and did we mention fine) dark-skinned men taking over the big and small screen. And all we can to that say is thank you, sweet Black baby Jesus in a manger.

BFI London Film Festival screening of Moonlight at the Embankment Garden Cinema, London
Featuring: Trevante Rhodes
Where: London, United Kingdom
When: 06 Oct 2016

Trevante Rhodes

Trevante Rhodes is one of the breakout stars of the movie we can’t stop talking about, Moonlight. The 26-year-old Louisiana native plays the oldest version of the main character Chiron in one of the most carefully thought out representations of a gay Black man we’ve seen to date. It’s just an added blessing that his smile and body happen to match his talent.

Kofi Siriboe

Like Trevante, Kofi Siriboe is equal parts beauty and talent. The Queen Sugar star is all anyone can talk about these days, and with a role in next summer’s Girl Trip plus his own photography and film projects we have a feeling we’ll all be talking about him for a long time to come.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is probably better known to you as Cadillac in Netflix’s The Get Down,  and with a face and body like his we have only one thing to say to him being cast in next year’s Baywatch: Good job.

Yahya hails from New Orleans, though his family moved to Oakland when he was a kid. And while studying at Yale Drama he was awarded the school’s prestigious Herschel Williams Prize. Brains and beauty y’all. Notice the theme?

Mahershala Ali

Yes we know we just talked about Mahershala Ali on Friday, but his name bears repeating for this list — especially since he’s got a spot in the biggest flicks and Netflix series of the season, including Luke Cage, Moonlight, Hidden Figures, and House of Cards.

John David Washington

No woman can forget the day she laid eyes on John David Washington and realized the truth of the phrase “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” when it comes to Denzel Washington and his son John David. There’s a reason he came to be known as “The best thing” on HBO’s Ballers.

Aldis Hodge truly makes Underground the breakout series that it is. His intense stares and no-nonsense personality (and that body) had us glued to the screen earlier this year. We can’t wait for WGN to bring this show back.

Since we first laid eyes on English actor Malachi Kirby as Kunta Kinte in the Roots remake we had to see more. And don’t be fooled by the baby face, Malachi is 27 and legal.
