Did you know that Taraji P. Henson and Hill Harper used to be in a serious relationship? We did.

Still, it was a relationship that took place during a time when she was just starting to gain some notoriety after playing Yvette in Baby Boy, so a large number of people weren’t hip to the beauty just yet. Based on old images of the pair together, it definitely looked like they were in love. So why didn’t things work out?

In a preview clip of tonight’s episode of Unsung Hollywood, the 50-year-old actor, who is still single, discussed his past dating life, including the time he courted actress Regina Hall, as well as Henson. Upon pondering why those relationships didn’t work, or any of the ones he’s been in over the years, the two-time People‘s Sexiest Man Alive nominee admitted that he can be a commitment phobe.

“Absolutely I’ve had a fear of commitment,” Harper stated. “No question. Would it be born out of the fact that my parents are divorced? Probably.”

When speaking on Hall, he called her “one of the most beautiful, funny, amazing women.” As for Henson, after what he said was a “wonderful” two-year relationship, he was asked why they didn’t end in happily ever after. His response?

“Taraji Henson and I were in a relationship for about a year and a half, two years. Wonderful relationship,” he said. “Just because you’re in a healthy, great relationship that ends doesn’t mean it wasn’t successful or it was a failure. Not all relationships are meant to end in marriage.”

Sounds like cold feet to me, but I’ll let the man stick to his story.

For her part, Henson hasn’t ever really spoken on that relationship. But since they’re both currently single, one can’t help but wonder if they’d ever consider reuniting. Then again, they call people your “ex” for a reason.

If you’re interested in the full story, you can check out Harper’s journey in Hollywood and his relationship ups and downs when his Unsung Hollywood episode, which premieres the newest season, airs on TV One at 8 p.m. tonight.
