The body of Florida teen Tovonna Holton was discovered by her mother, Levon Holton-Teamer, inside the bathroom of their Tampa home on Sunday. The teen died from what appears to be a self-inflicted gun shot wound. According to WFLA, Holton was the victim of bullying. Unfortunately, it wasn’t until after her death that loved ones learned the full extent of what the Wiregrass Ranch High School freshman was facing.

Holton’s family believes that her friends secretly videotaped her while she was showering and then proceeded to share the video with dozens of students before posting it on Snapchat. On the morning of her death, Holton told her mother that she owed someone who had a nude photo of her.

“Tovonna would say, ‘Mommy, I owe them; I owe them’. I said, ‘What do you mean you owe them?’ I couldn’t understand what was wrong,” Holton-Teamer said.

Hours later, Holten-Teamer discovered a pool of blood near the bathroom door in their home.

“I go to the bathroom; I couldn’t get in the bathroom. The bathroom light was off so I tried to get in and I looked down and I saw the puddle of blood. I tried to apply the pressure, the pressure to her head. I tried to save her,” Holton-Teamer said.

Relatives had to break down the door, which is when they discovered the dying teen. Following Holton’s death, her aunt, Angel Scott, turned to Facebook for answers, which is when she learned that it was actually a nude video of Holton that was circulating on social media.

“I just said, ‘If anybody knows anything, what happened? Have you heard of anything? Do you know who these kids are who have the pictures?’ I thought it was just pictures and then the kids started inboxing me,” Scott said. “Everybody was out there talking about her and calling her names and they said it went up on social media, Snapchat. I’d never heard of that before about 3 something that afternoon.”

After receiving complaints of bullying relating to Holton’s death, the Pasco County School District has turned the investigation over to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
