 Aisha And Danielle Moodie-Mills

ROB HOWARD

Although travel season is finally winding down, many still find themselves packing their bags for weekend work trips or, even better, to be honored for their trailblazing careers. Such was the case with Aisha and Danielle Moodie-Mills — whom you may recognize as the first same-sex married couple featured on Essence.com — when Aisha was honored as one of the most influential people by OUT 100 this past year.

The ceremony took place in New York City but unfortunately Aisha, who lives in Washington, DC, wasn’t able to attend due to a work commitment at the Rockwood Leadership Institute. However, her loving wife Danielle traveled to the Big Apple instead to receive Aisha’s award by using Amtrak’s Northeast Reginal Rail. While celebrating her wife’s and the other 99 honorees work at OUT 100, Danielle revealed how much she loves Amtrak’s downtown-to-downtown service from D.C. to New York, and in an accompanying documentary she also talked about the convenience of the train station locations near her home and hotel.

The couple also opened up their individual laurels and how they support  one another in their respected career fields; Danielle is the creator of BLIS.FM’s Politini and the CEO of Politini Media which serves as a boutique communications and media strategy firm. Aisha is the President and CEO of the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund and Institute.

For more about their marriage and work-life balance, check out their journey below and be sure to book your next trip on Amtrak, here.
