Considering how rare it was, seeing African American actresses in the spotlight with their natural hair will always be refreshing. Tempestt Bledsoe known for her role as Vanessa Huxtable on The Cosby Show loves showing off her natural tresses. In 2012, Bledsoe made a comeback to television in a new situation comedy Guys with Kids. While promoting the show, in an interview she discussed the recent disappearance of family sitcoms like Sister Sister, Family Matters, and Blossom

“I think it has gone out of vogue a little bit. I think that it dominated for a very long time. Then I think television started showing different experiences, especially with the single-camera genre taking off. But I think that there is an eternal truth that will always resonate. We all come from some sort of family.

There are common things that we all share. Whether our family is broken up, or it is dysfunctional, or is a happy family, or a family that is composed in different ways, like you are seeing with the [new NBC] show “The New Normal,” family has changed. It is a big word and it’s a big umbrella. But there are so many different truths that come under that umbrella.

I think, when you start with something that everyone shares in some respect and you spring off of that, there are always going to be different forms of family: the traditional ones and the nontraditional ones.

Although Guys With Kids was cancelled in 2013, we still look forward to seeing Bledsoe on the small screen. In the meantime, click continue to marvel at Bledsoe’s fluffy fro’.
