Can you believe it’s actually been 20 years since Bad Boys came out?! Where did the time go?
While we wait on a possible third installment to come to fruition (it was announced), I think it would be fun to see what the cast is looking like now, and what they’re up to.
So here it is!
Still looking good!
Since introducing the world to Detective Mike Lowrey, we know that Will Smith became one of the biggest stars on the planet. His latest film, Focus, came in at #1 at the box office earlier this year, proving that despite a few missteps (aka, After Earth), Smith is still a draw at the movies 20 years later. Coming up next for Smith is the highly anticipated film Suicide Squad, The American Can and of course, a rumored Bad Boys 3.
Playing Detective Marcus Barnett opened up more and more starring film role opportunities for Lawrence. What followed includes A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, Nothing To Lose, Life and Big Momma’s House. As for recent work, we know that Lawrence announced that a sequel to A Thin Line Between Love and Hate was in the works. As for TV, Lawrence was on the show Partners with Kelsey Grammer, but it doesn’t look like the show is coming back for a second season.
After playing Julie Mott, the friend of Detective Lowrey’s ex-girlfriend, Max, and the witness to her murder, Tea Leoni went on to star in Deep Impact, The Family Man, Jurassic Park III, Spanglish, Fun With Dick and Jane, and 2011’s Tower Heist. She is currently the star of the CBS drama Madame Secretary. Leoni also married actor David Duchovny after Bad Boys was made; but after two children, their marriage ended in 2014.
After a great turn as Fouchet, the villain in Bad Boys, Karyo, a Turkish-born French actor, worked in a gang of American films and TV shows as well as foreign films. Some of those films include Babel, The Patriot, and Taking Lives. His most recent work was a recurring role on the FX show The Missing last year. Also a talented musician and songwriter, Karyo released his second album, Credo, in 2013.
Soon after playing Detective Barnett’s wife, Theresa Randle was able to star front and center in her own film: Spike Lee’s Girl 6. She also played Natalie Cole in a TV movie called Livin’ For Love: The Natalie Cole Story. But that was pretty much it for her. After that, Randle would continue playing someone’s wife on-screen — whether she was doing so in Space Jam or Spawn — and have a small role on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. She also had a co-starring role on the short-lived Lifetime show State of Mind. The last time Randle did any TV or film work was in 2010. She’s been MIA since then…
Bad Boys was model Karen Alexander’s first big film role. In it, she played Detective Lowrey’s ex, Max. After making her film debut, Alexander only did one other movie: Repligator. In it, she played a “brainwashed hooker.” After such film turns, Alexander realized that the whole acting thing probably wasn’t for her. She still takes modeling gigs here and there, including a Gap ad she did a few years back. But for the most part, Alexander is focused on being a great mom to her two daughters, Ella and Zora.
Imperioli played a former informant named Jojo in Bad Boys, and we all know that he continued to thrive in his career after taking on the role. He did The Basketball Diaries, Clockers, Dead Presidents, Summer of Sam and more. He also did a great deal of TV work, including playing Christopher Moltisanti on The Sopranos (which he won an Emmy for), Life on Mars, and Detroit 1-8-7. Imperioli just completed work on two new films, The Wannabe and Houses.
After playing Captain Conrad Howard, Joe Pantoliano starred in a wealth of films and TV shows. He was backstabbing Cypher in The Matrix, and appeared in Memento, Daredevil, and Bad Boys II. He’s also been on The Sopranos, and most recently,
How To Make It In America. Pantoliano is also a writer and the founder of a non-profit organization for members of the entertainment industry who want to educate people on mental illness. He was diagnosed with clinical depression and has suffered with it for years.
Los Angeles Laker turned Basketball Wives reunion host, John Salley played the hacker “Fletch” in Bad Boys. It was his first film role, and after that, you couldn’t pull Salley away from the camera. He had a slew of guest roles on popular shows after that (including Malcolm & Eddie and Girlfriends), as well as movies (Mr 3000 and Black Dynamite for example), but he’s mostly done a great deal of appearances over the years, including work in documentaries and on reality TV shows. And don’t forget, he did manage to snag a role in Bad Boys II! Will he be in the third installment?
