What Did You Say? Women Eminem Shamelessly Dissed In His Songs
Emimen is one of the highest selling rappers of all time but he has been criticized on numerous occasions for his misogynistic lyrics. Coming up during the era of battle raps, the Detroit native is used to taking shots at people for laughs. Here’s a look at some of the women Em has targeted in his songs.
Iggy Azalea has been enjoying a very successful career in the spotlight and that has made her a prime target for Eminem. Last week the song “Vegas” leaked off of the upcoming “Shady XV” compilation album and it immediately became a trending topic thanks to its lyrics and rape comment aimed at Iggy. She clapped back at him on twitter calling him an old man. It’s also interesting to note that the Australian rapper beat out Em for Best Rap/Hip-Hop album at the American Music Awards over the weekend.

“Vegas” isn’t the only new Eminem song that seems to have the lyricist in trouble. To promote the new “Shady XV” album, Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf took part in the “Shady Cypher.” With no music behind them, each rapper had a turn to spit their rhymes and they saved the best for last. Emimen threatened to punch singer Lana Del Rey in the face twice like Ray Rice. SMH
To hear him tell it, Eminem and Mariah Carey briefly dated. But according to her that never happened. Mad that she denied everything, he took some shots at her on “Bagpipes From Baghdad.” That sent her hubby Nick Cannon in a tizzy and he responded with the song “Obsessed.” Em did not like that one bit and he really went off in “The Warning.”
Rihanna and Eminem have collaborated on several songs together. The Detroit native enlisted RiRi’s help for the 2010 song “Love The Way You Lie” and last year she joined him on their smash hit “The Monster.” But before they got on a song together, Em mentioned the Bajan singer on the song “Medicine Ball.” “I’ll pee on Rihanna/ See man, I’ll do what I wanna,” he said. Clearly that didn’t stop her from working with him or co-headlining a tour with Eminem.
Eminem verbally attacked Christina Aguilera early on in his career. She made a harmless joke directed at him on an MTV show and he responded by going for her neck. On the song “The Real Slim Shady,” he rapped “Christina Aguilera better switch me chairs so I can sit next to Carson Daly and Fred Durst, and hear ‘em argue over who she gave head to first.” And that was before he really went in on her. But they made up and she even attended the premiere of his film debut “8 Mile.”
Eminem set his sights on Britney Spears early on in his career as well. In the 2000 song “Marshall Mathers,” he dissed the pop star by calling her garbage and a retard. He rapped about wanting his money back, insinuating that he had purchased her album. But Spears didn’t seem to mind and she even called him a genius on her reality show.
Lady Gaga has always stressed the importance of individuality and loving yourself for who you are. But some people have accused the “Born This Way” singer of being a hermaphrodite. And Em has poked fun of Gaga about the rumor that’s followed her for much of her career. In the 2011 song “A Kiss,” he rapped, “Tell Lady Gaga she can quit her job at the post office/ She’s still a male lady.”
Being a part of the biggest reality television family has its benefits but they had to get used to being picked on. While Kim may be the most famous family member, Em left her alone and instead poked fun at her sister in last year’s “Berzerk.” “All I know is, I fell asleep and woke up in that Monte Carlo with the ugly Kardashian/ Lamar, oh, sorry yo, we done both set the bar low,” Em rapped.
Eminem left Kim Kardashian alone in favor of her sister Khloe last year because he had already poked fun of the mega reality star. In the 2009 song “We Made You,” Eminem talked about her very famous derriere. “Damn, I think Kim Kardashian’s a man/ She stomped him, just ’cause he asked to put his hands on her massive gluteus maximus again/ Squeeze then squish it and pass it to a friend.” But Kim was honored to be mentioned in an Em song and wrote on her blog that she was a huge Eminem fan.
We got a lot for our bang with “We Made You.” An obvious song about reality stars and celebrities, in addition to poking fun at Kim Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan was also mentioned. Eminem gave the former child star a backwards compliment aimed at her then girlfriend Samantha Ronson. “He does not mean to lesbian offend, but Lindsay, please come back to seeing men,” he rapped. “Samantha’s a two, you’re practically a ten/ I know you want me girl, in fact I see you grin.”
Not to be left out of the fun, Sarah Palin was also a target in the song “We Made You.” But he took it one step further and spoofed her in the music video as well. Em got a little graphic in lyrics about a sexual fantasy that included the former governor of Alaska. And for the video he enlisted the help of porn star and Palin lookalike Lisa Ann to portray the one-time vice presidential candidate.
After a four-year hiatus caused by writer’s block and a pill addiction, Eminem returned with the album “Relapse.” It wasn’t his best work but the Detroit native was still up to his old tricks. He went after Miley Cyrus in the song “Underground/Ken Kaniff,” he rapped, “Six semen samples, 17 strands of hair found at the back of a van after the shoot at Vanity Fair/ Hannah Montana, prepare to elope with a can opener and be cut open like cantaloupe on canopy beds.” But Cyrus wasn’t offended and shortly after the album was released she called him a living legend on Twitter.
Eminem doesn’t discriminate when it comes to picking his targets. Norah Jones has done a great job of carving out her own lane and finding a fan base. But in 2003, Eminem had no idea who the singer/songwriter was and made it be known in his song “Conspiracy.” No word on whether or not Jones knew who Em was at that time or if she heard the song.
