Did you watch the premiere of “Love and Hip Hop Hollywood”? If you did, I think we can all agree that it was something else. But then again, what else would you expect from the franchise?
One big storyline in the show that had people talking was the behavior of Teairra Mari and ex-boyfriend Ray J (who knew they were together for nine years off and on?). The “Make Her Feel Good” singer, who came out alongside Rihanna years ago as artists on Roc-a-Fella, acted quite over-the-top when confronting Ray J about moving on when they were supposed to be on a break. And when she popped up at his website party, she ended up throwing a drink at his new girlfriend, Princess Love (though Love was pretty disrespectful). In a preview of what folks can expect during the entire season, Mari is also seen hitting Ray J in the head, throwing an object at him and aiming a punch at another man on camera.
So in just one episode of “L&HHH” Mari was made to look out of control. And in an interview with Ebro Darden and Laura Stylez at Hot 97, Ray J spoke about how such behavior made their relationship hard to stay in:
Stylez: “That was a completely different side of Teairra Mari that I saw. And she looked bonkers. I’m sorry. I didn’t expect that from her. Has she always been like that?”
Ray J: “She’s from the D so she’s always had a voice. And she always, when she got mad, she really kind of expressed herself a little bit more over-the-top than other people would. A lot of physical altercations and a lot of hands…
Stylez: “That’s the reason why you decided to move away from that?”
Ray J: “I don’t put my hands on women. So if you keep getting punched a lot of time or you keep getting hit…you gotta watch the show. She’s throwing a lot of blows throughout the whole show. I don’t want to be put in a position where I gotta get away or defend myself, you know what I’m saying? I don’t want an accidental elbow to hit when trying to run away and then I be in trouble.”
