Today it might seem cheesy when kissing in the rain scenes pop up in movies, but if you could see the famous scenes that made the act so popular, you’d embrace it a lot more. Here are our favorites.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

The scene when Hollygolightly is looking desperately for her cat in an alley in the rain and she finds Paul standing in the rain watching her, waiting for her, and they don’t even need to speak…their lips just find one another.

Sweet Home Alabama

Reese Witherspoon’s character has just called off her wedding to the man we all know as McDreamy and runs to the beach, to the spot where lightning hit twice when she was a little girl with Jake, and finds him there and says “You’re the first boy I ever kissed Jake and I want you to be the last.”

Pirates of the Caribbean

Okay so this was an almost kiss but it was epic. In the middle of a battle on a ship, in stormy weather, Orlando Bloom grabs Keira Knightley, dips her backwards, is inches away from kissing her, and has to turn back to fight off an attacker.

Garden State

With “The Only Living Boy in New York” playing, standing on tractors in some sort of abandoned land fill, wearing hideous rain parkas, this is somehow one of the most romantic kisses between Zach Braff and Natalie Portman.

In the Land of Women

If you’re not familiar with this movie, go watch it now! The adorable Adam Brody, who plays a stunted writer living with his Grandma, falls in love with the cancer-ridden cougar next door, Meg Ryan. And they share a great kiss in the rain.

Love Jones

Nina is about to get in a cab when Larenz Tate stops her, tells her he liked her poem, and tells her that his love for her is as “urgent as a mother”—you—know—what.

Spider Man

Who could forget the famous upside down kiss? Many of us might have tried to recreate it only to realize an upside down kiss is awkward in real life! But Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire make it look so easy.

How Stella Got Her Groove Back

Okay it’s in the shower, but it has the same effect. After all it’s Taye Diggs and Angela Basset, two of the most gorgeous people alive today, what more do you need? They do a lot more than kissing in this scene so, cover any young eyes before looking up the clip!

The Notebook

Ryan Gosling has just pulled a boat out of the water so his muscles are bursting out of his shirt and Rachel McAdams confronts him asking why he never wrote her, to find out that he had every single day. He grabs her and says, “It still isn’t over” and kisses her.

Castaway

After being rescued following years of isolation on an island, Tom Hanks comes home to find that his wife played by Helen Hunt has re-married. He thinks he has to drive away forever, when she runs out of her house in the rain, stops his car and tells him she always knew he was alive, and that he’s the love of her life.

Match Point

It’s a naughty, naughty kiss between two people who are engaged to two other people. But my goodness are they two good-looking people—Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. And they’re on some gorgeous estate in the British countryside.

Dear John

Any kissing scene with hunky Channing Tatum, who also happens to be a brooding, hurt soldier recently back from war, is fine with us.

Sliding Doors

In two parallel universes, Gwyneth Paltrow is on a bridge in the rain with the adorable John Hannah, and in another, she is finding out her boyfriend has cheated on her. We prefer the former parallel universe.

Great Expectations

Gwyneth Paltrow does a lot of making out in the rain! The love story between Gwyneth Paltrow and Ethan Hawke begins with their first kiss in a water fountain, and has one of their final ones in the rain. They like kissing in the water apparently.

Australia

The fact that the elegant and stunning Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman never locked lips on screen before is a crime. But we love that when they do, it’s as two cattle ranchers in a dramatic World War II setting.
