Golden Globes 2014: Fashion, Moments And People That Had Us Talking

The 2014 Golden Globes have come and gone. Awards were handed out (quite a few we didn’t agree with), jokes were shared that had us cackling, speeches were made that were absolutely ridiculous and heartwarming, and the few people of color there were dressed to impress (or they tried their best to impress that is). Here are the looks, the moments, and the people that had us talking from the show.

Black Folks Didn’t Get The Shine We Thought They Would…

For real. This (the gif to the left) is how I was acting through a majority of the awards. Praise be to God that 12 Years a Slave got the recognition it deserved for Best Motion Picture Drama. But really? No black actors or actresses won anything? Not even Lupita!? How did Don Cheadle lose out to Andy Samberg!? I would say there’s a conspiracy going on, but I’m trying to leave that type of thinking in my past. But dang, all the amazing performances we saw from black actors and actresses this year and yet and still no love? C’mon Hollywood Foreign Press!

Lupita Nyong’o Slays

I said it once and I’ll say it again–Lupita Nyong’o is stunning! Her red Ralph Lauren gown with its chic cape, along with her flawless makeup and killer haircut made her a standout on the red carpet. She might have gone home without an award, but baby girl will always be a winner in our book!

Zoe Saldana Wore This…

Now to the fashion faux pas that stood out…The jury was NOT out from our staff when it came to Zoe’s look. Reactions to this Prabal Gurung dress included a “barf” and “terrible.” I actually thought it wasn’t too bad, but the bottom kind of ruined the exquisite top.

And Paula Put On This.

From far away on the red carpet, it looked okay, but when Paula Patton got on stage to present awards, we could see that her Stephane Rolland Couture dress was a mess. It was oh so tight on one side and a HUGE frilly mess on the other side. Seriously, the ruffle on her gown was literally from head to toe, and took all the attention away from her absolutely beat face. Well, at least we could all see that her body is sickening!

The Rest Of The Looks From People Of Color…You Be The Judge

Rocsi Diaz

Rashida Jones

Sofia Vergara

Gabourey Sidibe

Dapper Dudes

Hey Don! The fellas looked pretty great too! Usher showed off his new haircut (thank goodness…), and despite doing the most, Diddy, as always, was absolutely clean. Idris was easily hot stuff with his lady Nayina and Chiwetel was pretty fresh too.

Amy Poehler And Tina Fey Keep The Laughs Coming

From the ladies joking about George Clooney’s love for the younger ladies, to pretending Amy was Mr. Golden Globe and making out with Bono, the ladies kept the funny going all night long. No awkward moments, just pure comic genius.

Pregnant Women Rule

Baby bumps were poppin’ this evening! Kerry looked amazing in a custom made Balenciaga gown that showed off her baby bump. Olivia Wilde sported a tight Gucci gown that kept all eyes on her stomach, and Drew Barrymore looked oh so floral in a Jenny Packham gown. I would have to say that Kerry had the best mommy-to-be look, but what about you?

Diddy Does His Best To Make The Show About Him

I’m all for people bringing the energy, but Diddy was all about getting some attention. Seriously, I was surprised he didn’t go ahead and try to plug Revolt TV when he was on stage with Usher and Kate Beckinsale. From the “Let’s gooooo!” to sharing yacht party stories and trying to dap up a clearly unimpressed Bono, Diddy was trying to be the life of the wrong party.
