“I Hope To God That I Am Wrong” Mama Joyce Talks Todd, His Questionable Background & Why She’s Done Fighting
If you’ve been watching this season of the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” you’ve probably seen Mama Joyce, Kandi Burruss’ mom, acting out when it comes to her daughter’s engagement to Todd Tucker. For whatever reason, she does not think Todd is the man for Kandi and she has been anything but shy about letting that fact be known. She’s challenged Kandi, Todd and even Kandi’s friends along the way. We had a chance to speak to Mama Joyce earlier today to find out when she started doubting Todd, whether she’s scared of being replaced and what she wants us to know about Mr. Tucker. See what she had to say.
At what point did you start having doubts about Todd?
I think it was after he stopped working. After he finished the Kim and Kroy wedding special. Most producers go on to other jobs and he took like two months, two and a half months off. And I was a little leery about that. But he said he had saved up his money and decided to take some time off. And I didn’t like that.
Did you tell Kandi first or did you talk to him directly? How did you let people know initially?
At first I just kind of sat back and started observing. Like ‘what’s going on?’ I was like take some time off?’
In your ideal what type of man would you like to see your daughter with?
Just a good guy. Just a good hardworking guy. Somebody that’s just a straight up hard working guy. Kandi’s a good girl. She really is a sweetheart and she’s a go- getter. And I’d like to see her with somebody that’s as hard working as she is. Not one who would take advantage of her kindness.
Do your feelings toward Todd have something to do with the fact that you think you’ll be replaced?
Oh no. Nobody can replace a mother not a real mother. And let’s make one thing clear, I have my own money. Kandi does not take care of me. I live in the same house that I live in since months before Kandi was born. Kandi has offered to buy me a house before and I wanted her to save her money. That has been my primary goal to help her to accumulate her wealth. Now, she bought me a car in 2000 and she bought me a car this year after I had already bought myself a Lexus. I have rental property and I’m retired. I have a good income coming in. Now, Kandi gives to me. She’s very generous. Because I was a very good mother. She had nothing but the best growing up. And I’m not worried about no man taking my place because can’t no man take a good mother’s place. I just want the best for her and Riley.
