Crowned the next king of rap by many, Kendrick Lamar’s deep, bass-filled voice belies his age and size. The diminutive West Coast rapper dropped several mixtapes before releasing his independent album Section.80 in 2011 to critical acclaim. The gifted 26-year-old lyricist caused quite a stir in hip-hop a few months ago with his verse on Big Sean’s “Control,” by declaring himself the King of New York, calling out all rappers, some by name, and challenging them to step up their game.
