Oh my, the year has gone by…we watched time fly and now we say bye-bye. You like that rhyme huh? Well, love it or hate it, we’re bringing you the most dramatic celebrity moments of 2010. Let us know which ones you’d add to the list!
15. Chris Brown Does M.J. Impression & Cries
During a Michael Jackson tribute at the B.E.T. Awards in June of this year, Chris Brown performed a serious rendition of the late “king of pop.” He cried afterwards, leaving some puzzled, and others certain that his was one of the most dramatic moments of 2010.
14. Naomi Campbell Testifies in ‘Blood Diamonds’ Case
In a dramatic unfolding of events, the supermodel testified in August about receiving blood diamonds from former Liberian dictator, Charles Taylor.
According to Newser.com, Campbell said at the time that she “had never heard of Charles Taylor before, never heard of the country Liberia before, had never heard the term ‘blood diamonds,'” adding that “they were kind of dirty-looking pebbles [she’d received from Taylor]. When I’m used to seeing diamonds I’m used to seeing them shiny in a box.”

13. Shonda Rhimes Writes a Stunning ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season Finale
Talk about primetime drrraaama! Rhimes, the creator of ‘Grey’s’ wrote a “multiple gasp“-inducing season finale in May of this year about a hospital shooter that left both fans and non-fans of the show going crazy on Twitter for days. Weeks. Months. Heck, we’re still talking about it! Brilliant work, Madame Rhimes.
12. Sandra Bullock Adopts a Black Baby
Through what seemed to be the curse of the ‘Best Actress’ awards, Bullock’s trifling husband…whathisname/whocares…fine, Jesse James cheated on her and the information became public earlier this year. What worsened the situation, as we discovered in April, was that the two had just adopted a child together.
11. Antoine Dodson Thinks Rapists “Are So Dumb, For Real!”
The eldest of six children, our beloved Antoine Dodson, appeared on Alabama local news in July of 2010 to express rage at the idiot who attempted to rape his sister. His famous line addressed to the criminal, “you are so dumb – for real,” will be repeated for years to come.
10. T.I. Gets Married, Goes to Jail Again
In a dramatic turn of events, rapper T.I. was released from jail after serving a married his forever longtime girlfriend, Tameka a.k.a “Tiny” Cottle, at a courthouse in July of this year. Ironically, the courts weren’t through with T.I., as he and his new bride were arrested for alleged drug possession in September. Hmmm.
9. Mo’Nique Wins Academy Award
Mo’Nique memorably won the best supporting actress award during the Academy Award ceremony in March. Many felt her work in the film “Precious” warranted her high honors. At the same ceremony though, we can’t forget the awarding of Geoffrey Fletcher, the first African American to win an Oscar for screenwriting.
8. Tyler Describes Abuse on Oprah
In a gut-wrenching interview, Tyler Perry opened up to Oprah Winfrey this October about his childhood experience with abuse by several people, including his father who physically abused him. Our hearts went out to Perry, whose ability to connect with female audiences has earned him accolades and honor.
7. Larry King’s Show Ends
December brought the end of “Larry King Live,” a CNN news show that lasted decades in our homes. King brought on his family, colleagues and friends on his very last show – and left us with, “maybe not ‘goodbye,’ but ‘so long!’ as he said almost tearfully. Thank you, Mr. King.
6. Fantasia Attempts Suicide
The sad tale of an extramarital affair and pressures for her album to perform well, put artist Fantasia in a serious predicament this year. In August, we heard news of her apparent suicide attempt, and felt worried, confused–and shocked.
5. Sade Releases First Album in 10 Years
One of the most epic events in black music history (considering how reclusive Sade can be) happened in the form of her album, ‘Soldier of Love.’ The album set the music scene ablaze on Feb. 8, 2010, driving all her hungry fans mad. It was Sade’s first album in 10 years. Gun salute to you “Sade soldiers.”
4. Mark Zuckerberg Donates $100 Million to Newark Schools
With all the high school and college kids dwelling on Facebook these days, it must have been thrilling to them that Zuckerberg, chief executive of Facebook, donated some money to the notoriously troubled school system of Newark. The news came in September this year. We hope that the money is used wisely enough to actually make a difference in people’s lives – just like Facebook has!
3. Willow Smith’s ‘Whip My Hair’ Shocks & Pleases
Who knew that Will Smith’s daughter could be both cute as a button AND super-talented? Her “Whip My Hair” song was released in November this year and she signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. Now, how many of us accomplished that feat at her age of nine? What a doll!
2. Wyclef Runs for President of Haiti
The stunning news hit the airwaves in August of this year that hip-hop superstar Wyclef Jean wanted to lead Haiti. Though officials rendered him ineligible to run during the same month, his willingness and enthusiasm caught our attention this year!
1. Kanye Redoes the MTV Movie Awards
Let’s have a toast for the man who never seems to disappear, even though some of you pretend like you want him to. Face it: you’re obsessed with Kanye West, as he says and does all the gutsy (read: a-holish) things you want to do, but can’t. Kind of. He caught our attention this September as “Runaway” his apologetic ode to Taylor Swift, stole the MTV Movie Awards show – as usual. In a GOOD way this time.
