As things heat up on ABC’s hit political drama Scandal, the fact that the current season will be coming to an end soon is becoming painfully real to the popular show’s millions of faithful viewers a.k.a The Gladiators. Not to fret though, it appears that Scandal creator, Shonda Rhimes, Olivia, Fitz and the gang have a whole lot in store before the show’s May 16th season finale. Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn recently chatted it up with Entertainment Weekly during a behind the scenes interview at their steamy cover shoot and let’s just say, that Olivia-Fitz magic that we see week after week appears to translate off-screen as well.

“We’ve been through a really rough time,” Goldwyn says of Fitz and Liv’s relationship.

“That’s an understatement. You’ve been really mean… a grumpy-pants,” Washington humorously interjects, referencing the cold shoulder that Goldwyn’s character has been serving Olivia with this season.

“A major grumpy pants. I’ve turned turned into a really unhappy dude. I was pretty angry at Olivia to put it mildly and pretty much blamed her for everything. But Fitz is coming into himself and realized that he’s allowed himself to become somebody else. He’s moving towards forgiveness and trying to find out how to rediscover Olivia and reconnect. He’s trying to forgive himself so he wants to forgive her. But, he may have taken it too far and crossed a barrier that can’t be uncrossed,” Goldwyn goes on to say of his character.

“Yeah and Olivia is really struggling with having feelings for someone who doesn’t always treat her in the way that she feels like she deserves to be treated or in the ways that she wants to be treated. You know, he’s a married man and stuff,” Washington adds before looking at Goldwyn and releasing a giggle.

“She’s always mentioning that. It’s so inconvenient,” Goldwyn says, inviting the pair’s interviewer to take part in the inside joke.

Washington and Goldwyn then proceed to engage in a flirty conversation about their characters not being able to leave each other alone. We certainly don’t need Olivia Pope’s coveted gut instincts to tell us that there’s some sort of chemistry there.

We’ll be sad to see Scandal go, but we know that the season finale will be mind-blowing and next season’s premiere will be even better.
