Oprah Winfrey’s matriarchal role comforted us as character Lucielia as we wept over the loss of her baby, Serena.
Set It Off
No one wanted to see the four black bank-robbing sisters fast paced, criminal lifestyle come to an end, but it was inevitable. Cleo’s prints on the tossed CDs and surveillance cameras were dead giveaways. The former cleaning ladies’ fate came to an end, with only Stony getting away, looking like a sad puppy as the bus took off at the end. Even thought the girls were committing crimes, we couldn’t help but empathize with their motivations and Stony being left all alone in the end.
Waiting To Exhale
Remember the sister swag walk Angela Bassett delivers as she sashays away from lighting her cheating husband’s car and all his belongings aflame? That left us hi-fiving our friend, dog — whoever was in the room at the time! The experiences of these four well-off sisters and their issues with men had us identifying, crying, and laughing through the whole movie.

Working at the sewing factory was not Ana’s idea of starting the next chapter in her life. College on her mind, she has nothing but contempt for the mindless work, but soon learns about teamwork and solidarity while spending time there. She fights to find her place as an American Chicana.
