Carl Anthony Payne To Play L.A. Reid In Forthcoming TLC Biopic
Earlier this week when we reported that Rochelle Aytes had been cast to play Perri “Pebbles” Reid in VH1’s much talked about TLC biopic, some of you let us know that you were interested in finding out if Antonio “L.A.” Reid would have a role in the film and who was being cast to play his character. We’ve just learned that Carl Anthony Payne II, most commonly known for his role as Cole on 90’s sitcom, Martin, is slated to play the infamous music mogul who is credited for the multi-platinum sales of artists such as Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton and Kanye West, reports The YBF.
In case you are unsure of the role that Reid played in the makings of TLC, he is the former husband of Perri “Pebbles” Reid, the woman credited for discovering and developing TLC. The group eventually filed bankruptcy and broke away from Pebbles, accusing her of mismanaging their money.
“TLC wanted Pebbitone out of their lives and the only way they could get out was to file bankruptcy,” Reid once told NY Mag.
It appears that the TLC drama had a lasting impact in the personal lives of Pebbles and Antonio as well. He described the group’s breaking away as “one of the breaking points in my marriage.”
While we’re not exactly sure what TLC had to do with the demise of the Reids’ marriage, hopefully the movie will provide us with some sort of insight.
The storyline sounds like it has all of the makings of a great biopic.
