9. Cosign For Him

If your man can’t buy a car or get a loan because he has bad credit, then guess what? He shouldn’t have it. Why? Because he’s irresponsible and the worst thing you can do is cosign for a man who you already KNOW is irresponsible. He has bad credit for a reason and whether he accumulated student loans that he can’t pay back or is trying to lead a baller lifestyle on a broke dude’s budget, it’s not your responsibility or obligation as his girlfriend to sign your name to anything. Now, that’s not to say that you shouldn’t help him if you want to. But by help I mean helping him to create a budget in order to pay back his debt or recommend a financial counselor who can teach him about money management. But that’s where your help should end, especially if the man in question is ONLY a boyfriend. He may think it’s your responsibility as his girlfriend to help him out, but your only responsibility is to yourself and your own credit score. Good credit is even more important these days in this economy, particularly if you want to buy a house or even get a job. Keep your credit clean and separate from his, and if he even fixes his mouth to ask you to cosign anything for him, you might want to get with a guy who is a little more stable.
