Here are 14 black celebs who have made the choice to adopt or have been adopted themselves.

Jamie Foxx

Jamie Foxx was adopted by his grandparents when he was 7 months old after his parents’ marriage went downhill and eventually ended.

Patti LaBelle

Out of Patti LaBelle’s five children, two of them are adopted. The two boys were adopted after their biological mom died.

Nelson Mandela

Though he wasn’t adopted through the adoption process of today, when Nelson Mandela’s dad died when he was only 9, Chief Jongintaba Dalindyebo adopted him and became a father figure.

Al Roker

News anchor Al Roker, along with his wife, adopted a girl, named Courtney, in 1987.

Keyshia Cole

Keyshia was adopted when she was just two years old by Leon and Yvonne Cole who were family friends, which is when her last name was changed from Johnson to Cole.

Jesse Jackson

Jesse Jackson’s biological father wasn’t married to his mother and he wasn’t much of a father figure. When his mother married, his step-father adopted him in 1956.

Viola Davis

Viola Davis and her husband adopted a baby girl named Genesis in October 2011

Wyclef Jean

Wyclef and his wife Maria adopted a daughter named Angelina in 2005.

Nat King Cole

Nat King Cole and his wife adopted a daughter named Carol after both of her parents died. They also adopted a son named Nat Kelly a few years later.

Alfre Woodard

Actress Alfre Woodard and her husband adopted a daughter named Mavis and a son named Duncan.

Rev Run and his wife Justine Simmons adopted a little girl named Miley in 2007.

Born as Darryl McDaniels, DMC of Run DMC was adopted when he was only 3 months old by Banna and Byford McDaniels.

Daunte Culpepper

Famous retired NFL player Daunte Culpepper was adopted when he was just a day old. His mom was in jail at the time of his birth and prison  housemother Emma Culpepper raised him, after having helped raise other foster children.
