Healthcare Experts Share Warning About Peeing In The Shower
Sis, Stop Peeing in the Shower— Experts Say Your Bladder Will Thank You

The shower is not only the best place for some people to do their thinking, but it’s also the place where people should be doing their best cleaning. Some people also use the shower to relieve themselves while they are getting cleaned up. However, experts are warning individuals of the dangers associated with doing this.
On June 6, a healthcare expert alerted followers on TikTok that urinating in the shower can have negative effects, especially for women. A 2014 study showed 62% of American people admitted to peeing in the shower. According to the expert’s comments section, many people still do it.
The expert, whose TikTok name is @kingsley.502, recorded herself looking into the camera. She sat smiling and spinning in a chair with a written message in white lettering above her head that read, “Hot take but don’t pee standing up in the shower.”

She further expanded on this advice in the caption.
“Hot take but don’t pee standing up in the shower or anywhere for that matter,” it read. “Ladies, you are training your bladder that it’s okay to empty while standing. Don’t do it! This could cause bladder leakage.”
Under her video, one fan joked, “I can’t even enjoy the simple pleasures in life.”
Someone else said, “You not my momma!”
A third wrote, “Chile, I’ve been doing it since I was a kid.”

It’s not surprising that she was met with some pushback, but she isn’t the only one who has issued this warning.
Back in 2022, urogynaecologist Dr. Teresa Irwin explained why people shouldn’t make urinating in the shower a habit.
“It’s kind of like Pavlov’s dog training where every time they heard a little bell ring they will start to salivate. And your bladder, every time it hears running water, it’s going to want to pee. So whenever you’re washing your hands, if you’re taking a shower, washing the dishes, if there is running water your bladder is going to be ‘salivating’ because it wants to go and pee.”
There have also been arguments that this act can cause issues for your pelvic floor muscles. The idea is that standing puts a strain on your pelvic floor and causes the muscles to weaken over time. Pee could also contain harmful bacteria that may cause infection if it seeps into a cut on a person’s lower body.
While it is everyone’s own decision on what they do in their shower, they can’t say they haven’t been warned.
