Dating experts Channa Bromley and Dr. Candice Nicole Hargons suggest that some men and women may find their attraction dwindling if they regularly see their partner lounging at home in sweatpants or oversized pajamas. In fact, the relationship experts say wearing cozy loungewear or PJs around your partner daily can disrupt the visual cues that spark seduction and reduce intimacy.
Bromley told Newsweek that sporting saggy sweatpants or oversized clothing often, when you’re around your partner, can kill sexual attraction.
“Comfort kills urgency,” the San Jose, Costa Rica, based dating expert said. “They are not just nightwear. They are a signal. When someone trades in seduction for a fleece onesie, they are not prioritizing attraction. They are prioritizing ease. That shift, subtle as it seems, seeps into every part of a relationship.”

According to Bromley, “attraction thrives on friction.” She believes pajamas can hide the physical attributes your partner finds appealing, which are key to fostering that sexual “tension” leading up to good sex. The romance coach said that cozy attire can replace your sizzling attributes “with something softer. Something safer.”
Now, wearing comfy clothes at home isn’t grounds for a breakup. Bromley clarified that wearing baggy or cozy PJs at night shouldn’t spell the end of intimacy in a happy, healthy relationship. However, she advised both women and men to prioritize how they look around their partner, suggesting they make an effort to freshen up during the day and night to keep the relationship’s spark alive.
“If both partners are wrapped in layers of fleece and flannel, the real question is whether they are still seeing each other as lovers or if they have stopped seeing each other at all,” she added.
It’s all about balance, according to Hargons.

To maintain a healthy balance, Dr. Candice Nicole Hargons, a psychologist and author of Good Sex, shared with Newsweek that couples should strike a balance between wearing seductive sleepwear and cozy, comfortable attire around the house. While it might be helpful to ask your partner what they enjoy seeing you wear, this can strengthen your bond and reignite the passion in your relationship.
According to Dr. Hargons, men often appreciate the way their partner looks and feels during intimacy, while women tend to value the warmth and physical closeness of their partner. Additionally, women also place importance on physical attraction.
It’s important to keep these cues in mind when shopping for at home attire, Hargons says. Choosing the right sleepwear or loungewear can enhance your sex life by increasing desire, while unflattering options may put a damper on the spark.
“You and your partner can ask each other what type of pajamas are attractive by saying, ‘Pick something for me to sleep in that you find sexy from my current wardrobe,’” the doctor suggested. “Each of you can opt to wear them on a night you designate to see if you feel a bit more turned on with each other. If you notice a difference, you can make it a more regular part of your life.”
A lot of people wear PJs during bedtime.

A survey conducted by the Better Sleep Council in 2023 found that 74% of adults wear pajamas at least a few times a week, while 21% of the 2,000 adults surveyed prefer to sleep in the nude. If sleeping naked is your preference, you’re in luck. The council discovered that going without clothes at night can benefit your body by helping regulate its temperature, as there’s nothing to trap heat.
A cooler sleep environment can lead to faster sleep onset, improved sleep quality, and even a boost to your metabolism. Additionally, sleeping in the nude may reduce your risk of bacterial and fungal infections and may lead to better sex with your partner.
