Are You The ‘Floater Friend’? How To Be More Intentional In Your Friendships - Page 2

Engage deeply, not superficially.

Many floaters struggle with surface-level conversations because they don’t dive into vulnerability or deeper topics. Open Up. Try to engage with your friends on a more meaningful level. Ask them about their hopes, fears, or personal experiences. Let them in on yours too. The more you open up, the more they’ll feel comfortable doing the same, and that can deepen your bond. This will help you to identify who’s truly apart of your tribe.

In a video posted Aug. 2, 2024, TikTok star @iamqbea warned against becoming the “seat filler”—the friend who only gets invited to events when it’s time to party or when a buddy in your circle has something fun revolving around them. Sadly, those same friends are “nowhere to be found” when it’s time to “check up on you or see what you’re up to.”

The TikTok influencer explained that a key sign you’re a “seat filler” friend is when your so-called “friends” never support you in anything you do, but are always expecting your support and seeking praise to boost their ego.

“See, once I realized I was a seat filler friend for a lot of people, my circle became extremely small. I really had to realize that everything really do be for social media these days like these girls are really making connections off esthetics – like it’s crazy to me,” she added.
