Brown served as the Panthers’ minister of justice in 1968 and received national attention due to his use of violent rhetoric. In 1970, he was arrested for attempted armed robbery and sentenced to five years in prison. After his release, he converted to the Muslim religion and lived a quiet life until March 2000 when he was arrested for murder.
