Attending public or private school isn’t the best method of education for every child, which leads some parents to homeschooling their children. Research from 2015 indicated that black children that were home-schooled scored 42 percentile points higher on standardized tests than the public school students. One celebrity that is a supporter of homeschooling is rapper ScHoolboy Q.

During a recent visit to Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, he said his daughter, Joy, has been excelling more now that she is homeschooled.

“My daughter hates school,” he said, “She hated it. She didn’t like it at all. She would always start off good in school and then her [grades would drop]. She hated it…never really went to friend’s parties, none of that. She said she doesn’t want to go so I took her out of class and put her in homeschool.”

The ‘Chopstix” rapper said since starting homeschool his daughter has learned more in a few months than she learned in a year than when she was in regular school. Joy, who just turned 10, recently tested at a sixth grade level according to her father.

The TDE rep went on to imply that not being in a classroom with so many other kids helps her be more attentive and confident.

“There’s no distractions. School is just a big distraction,” he added.

ScHoolboy Q  described how the classroom can be discouraging due to students’ being expected to reach or surpass expectations and students also comparing themselves to their peers who may be performing better than them.
