Beyonce recently shook the world with the release of her Netflix special, Homecoming, and its accompanying live album of her historic 2018 Coachella performance. On the album, Bey surprisingly gifted us with a remake of the Frankie Beverly and Maze classic “Before I Let Go.” When current artists remake classics fans wonder if the original artist loves the song as much as the fans do. Fortunately, Frankie Beverly was more than pleased with Bey’s rendition.

“When they played it, that’s when I heard the first draft of it, and I was blown away,” he told Billboard. “It’s a blessing. It’s amazing how she works, she’s very smart. I’m caught off guard, but in a beautiful way. She’s such a sweet person too. She’s a very sweet, religious kind of person. Then the way she just released it, it’s off the chain. She’s done so much, this is one of the high points of my life.”

Beverly said he was just as surprised as we were when she released the remake. He said he met the “Countdown ” singer back when she was a teen at his concert during the Houston Rodeo. He said they have remained friends throughout the years and she managed to be tight lipped about her giving his 1981 a remix.

“This cover was just like she is. She didn’t make a big deal out of doing this song, and that’s just the way she works. I love the way she does her thing.”

The Homecoming rendition of “Before I Let Go” recently sparked an Instagram challenge and the Queen herself featured her favorites on her IG story, something she barely does.
