Why High School Sweethearts Often Reconnect
I’ve noticed a lot of friends and acquaintances reconnecting with high school sweethearts recently. I’ve even been seeing it in the bridal reality shows I’ve been watching (my guilty pleasure)—old high school flames getting back together after decades of being apart, and perhaps decades of not even seeing each other. You have to wonder: what’s that about? Is this a standard story of two exes giving it another go? Or, is it almost like two strangers dating, since two people would—hopefully—be completely different in their, say, thirties or forties than they were in their teens? It’s a bit of a hybrid of those two scenarios, really, because, don’t we all know that, while a lot changes, some things always stay the same? What I mean is that, no matter how much you’ve learned and grown since high school, there is still a fundamental part of you that has always been the same. Maybe that’s what an old flame is attracted to. Maybe not. Here are some reasons high school sweethearts reconnect.
They want to recapture their youth
Sometimes, getting back with an old high school flame is a part of a mid-life (or early mid-life) crisis. Fear of getting older can make us want to do things that make us feel as if we’re going back in time. There’s nothing quite like getting back with a high school fling to help you feel like you’re immortal.
