The thing about the internet is that people can use and reuse the content you post for their own purposes. Since the passing of his longtime girlfriend, friend and mother of his children, Kim Porter, Diddy has been writing tribute posts in her honor, complete with the memories the two shared together.

Over the weekend, he shared this one:

Later, Justin Bieber reposted the same picture. But in his caption, in addition to sharing his admiration for Porter, first he took the opportunity to plug his clothing line drew house.

Immediately, fans started expressing the level of distaste for Bieber using a tribute to a dead woman to promote a product.

When Bieber shared the post, people expressed their opinions about the post.

According to PEOPLE, one user wrote: “Delete this sir he shared this picture in memory of his wife not for promo for the clothing line.”

Another said, “Delete this he was morning about his girlfriend under the post. This is disrespectful.”

“Hope this gets taken down. Disrespectful to re-use a photo Diddy used on a memorial post to promote a brand.”

Eventually, Bieber hopped in the comments to offer his side of the story.

“ur wrong. God knows my heart, I know them and their family don’t tell me I’m being disrespectful I have all the respect for both of them I didn’t realize it was a photo of him mourning KP but I totally respect that but I also respect how sick of a photo that is! It’s allay to appreciate art photographs are art and he happens to be wearing and identical outfit of my clothing lines and I thought that was really cool.”

Right…and therein lies the issue. You just thought it was cool, an opportunity to promote your brand, so you didn’t think about the ways in which it could be insensitive and exploitative, given what Diddy and his family are currently going through.
