(AJC) — Housing advocates, policy makers and developers troubled by metro Atlanta’s foreclosure crisis kicked off a regional initiative Tuesday to curb one of the plagues of the region’s economy.  The ambitious project, dubbed Piece By Piece, a Regional Foreclosure Initiative, was short on specific policy fixes to metro Atlanta’s housing ills, but long on partners pledging support to stem the tide of home repossessions. About 120 community groups, federal, state and local government agencies, banks and housing advocates have signed on, officials said. The intent of Piece By Piece is to stabilize and redevelop neighborhoods littered with abandoned and foreclosed home and help struggling borrowers stay in their houses by encouraging lenders to come up with alternatives to repossession.
