The NAACP Image Awards announced their nominations this past week and its no surprise the Black Panther movie is up for a whopping 17 awards. Atlanta, Black-ish and Insecure dominate the TV categories, but one show that many would say did a phenomenal job displaying dramatic acting and storytelling from people of color was notably absent and producer Janet Mock believes that it wasn’t just an oversight.
Mock took to Twitter on Thursday to express her frustrations that FX’s POSE, a show starring the largest trans TV cast of all time, was left out of the running:
The show has been praised for taking the lead in TV for its representation of the LGBTQ community as well as people of color. It was nominated for “Best Television Series — Drama” at the Golden Globes, as well as the corresponding Critics Choice Award category. It is also nominated for “Outstanding Drama Series” at the GLAAD Media Awards. Ryan Murphy was nominated for “Best Actor — Television Series Drama” at the Golden Globes, and won the “Best Actor In A Drama Series” at the Critics’ Choice Award.
Fans also took to social media to express their disappointment alluding to the fact that the show’s heavy emphasis on the LGBTQ community might be behind it’s exclusion:

POSE debuted last summer and stars Indya Moore, Billy Porter and Dominique Jackson among others who handle the heavy subject matter of the show with elegance and powerful performances. The show has been renewed for a second season due to premiere in 2019. Mock has produced several episodes for the show which centers on the HIV epidemic in the early 90’s and ball culture in NYC.
