I've got social media to keep me company

There’s something really magical about Black girls. Just ask Michele Manteaw. A few days ago she posted a few selfies to Reddit’s r/MakeupAddiction and the world wanted nothing more than to know her skincare routine. Currently the photos has been 98% upvoted and attracted 336 comments from women who were hypnotized by her glorious melanin skin.

I mean… just look at that gorgeous, glowing skin! When Michelle got wind of the comments under her photos, she responded with her go-to products. “Damn this response is overwhelming! thank you for all your kind comments 😭I use quite a few products both in the morning and evening as well as depending on what my skin needs at the time. A few important elements to my routine would be: • high key moisturising (regardless of your skin type – oily skin can sometimes be dry skin trying to overcompensate its dryness, thus making excess oil!) • washing my face with a foreo and a gentle but clarifying face wash • (bi)weekly sheet masks from Korea • I like a lot of lush products! full of grace is my holy graillllllll like. girl. • drinking loads of water (as cliché as it may sound, but I honestly drink loads) also, complete side note but cutting as much dairy out of my diet REALLY helped with the overall texture and frequency of breakouts. life. changing. I know this is probably not the response you’re expecting, but my routine is not just the products, but how and when I use them too. I’ll probably be making a video on my YT in the next few weeks showing this, just to clarify more if you’re interested all? Sorry again for the lame response, but hope this helps a bit! xo.”

In a separate Instagram post, Michele thanks her followers for all the love and recalls her skin not always being flawless. She writes, “..growing up, I had acne and suffered from hyperpigmentation for some time (pic 2 is with makeup on, LAWD). I never really had pocket money, so when I started to get small small money, I used to bang it out with more skincare products. today, my skincare routine something I really take pride in, as I’ve seen the results of what a good and consistent one can do. it makes me really happy that I can help people all over the world by showing them what I do and love. at the same time, it kinda saddens me that people are so used to the effects of filters and facetune. Because of this, a good selfie apparently has to be the result of some form of editing. ⁣⁣So I wanna be clear with you. this is me. like before, unfiltered. but this time, very exposed. ⁣⁣And as I share this space with you, I hope you’ll accept me for me. 💛⁣⁣”

Michelle documents a lot of her fashion, hair, and beauty routines via her YouTube page, MelaninMichie. There, you can see just how flawless her skin is. Definitely not filtered or photoshopped! For all the reasons to go viral, this is one that stands out the most. With all this talk of colorism, it’s refreshing to see such beautiful brown skin put on a pedestal. I also appreciate her using her platform to speak up about self-acceptance. Facetune, filters and photoshop have warped our perception of beauty. Michele shows us that we don’t need it.

Thanks for the routine, girl!
