Hello, my name is Davina and I’m addicted to YouTube. I don’t know what it is about it, but I can get lost for hours watching videos about the most random topics. One of the features YouTube has that I love is that they recommend videos based on your viewing history. I am really into natural remedies, foods, and products so it was no surprise that a number of videos about black seed oil started popping up.

Everyone was boasting about the positive effects of black seed oil and how it changed their lives so I did additional research. Many articles I read mentioned black seed oil helped with hair growth, acne, weight loss, cancer, diabetes, and reducing tumor size, so I decided to buy some and see if I’d reap similar benefits. My first instinct is to try something natural before going to the doctor. Nothing against doctors, but I truly believe that nature has a cure for whatever ails us. Doctors are just practicing medicine anyway, and the majority of medications’ side effects are worse than the original sickness so I’d rather practice on myself and go see a doctor once I’ve exhausted all options. I started taking one tablespoon of black seed oil in the morning on an empty stomach and one tablespoon 30 minutes before bed and seven months later I am still taking it and have no plans on stopping. Here are the areas black seed oil has been a gamechanger for me:

  1. Sinus issues: I have always had horrible sinuses. My sinuses were always congested and I would get horrible headaches and infections. It was something I had just learned to suffer with and no matter how many doctors I went to, they could never give me anything to clear my sinuses up that didn’t completely dry my sinuses out. Every morning I would wake up with a stuffed nose and phlegm in my throat; no matter what the temperature was outside. After two weeks of taking black seed oil, I woke up one day and, voila, I could breathe! It was so shocking even my boyfriend said something.
  2. Weight loss: This was a very shocking side effect because I wasn’t trying to lose weight, but when I had to get a physical for an insurance policy that I was trying to get, the nurse weighed me and I was 5lbs lighter. My weight does not fluctuate and I didn’t do anything different as far as my diet or exercise routine; the only difference was the black seed oil.
  3. Increased energy: I have never been a morning person. I normally don’t fully wake up until around 10:00 a.m and I always need tons of coffee just to function. After a few months of taking black seed oil, I noticed that I was able to get out of bed after only snoozing two times vs. my normal five, and I needed less coffee to function.
  4. Hair growth: I normally wear wigs but I always make sure my real hair is clean and moisturized underneath. My hair is already healthy so I wasn’t expecting any miracles when I added some black seed oil to the oil mixture I use on my hair once a week. My hair did not get any longer, but it did get thicker and the few grey strands I had are gone.
  5. Better workouts: I was diagnosed with exercise-induced asthma when I was young. As I got older I learned to control it and never needed an inhaler, but it did inhibit my workouts because sometimes I was not able to push myself like I wanted without getting dizzy and running out of breath. Now that I’ve been taking black seed oil my breathing has improved and my workouts are able to be more challenging. Black seed oil may even be a suitable alternative to asthma medication.

I have shared my positive experiences with black seed oil with people close to me, and those who have tried it loved it as well. Like most natural remedies, you may not see results overnight. I was healthy before I started taking black seed oil so that’s probably why I saw results quickly. Some others I have known that were not as far along in their health journey took longer to see results. It’s normal to have some skepticism with an oil that’s purported to have hundreds of health benefits. Black seed oil definitely has promise as a supplement but keep in mind that it is just a supplement—it won’t undo the effects of an unhealthy diet or a sedentary lifestyle. So get off the couch, get that body moving, eat your fruits and veggies, and add some black seed oil in the mix and see what positive changes may happen.
