Singer Brooke Valentine hasn’t been doing all that much singing on Love and Hip Hop Hollywood. As we’ve previously discussed on this site, she has, instead, been keeping her nose in the business of her cast mates, standing by idly while cast members laugh at those having panic attacks, attempting to steal the shine of others, and damn near bullying the former fling of her fiancé, Marcus Black. Let the 33-year-old (soon to be 34) tell it, and as most people assume, her actions on the show are “planned.” It’s all just TV. But that doesn’t take away from the reality that the show has made her either a hilarious personality to some people, or an unlikable troublemaker to the rest.

She must have been feeling the heat from the latter group, because Valentine posted a message on Instagram this week, telling people to not take what they see her do on the show to heart, but instead, laugh a little and lighten up.

“My loves, don’t argue with people that believe everything they see… simply pray for them,” she wrote. “It’s okay to run to the tube for entertainment but if you’re looking for guidance run to GOD it’s the safest place. I don’t address scenes in an attempt to allow you to enjoy it for what it is but PLEASE don’t let it bother your spirit or affect your mental, that’s not my goals for you! SMILE! Stay positive! Laugh more! … LOVE YOU 😘 B.”

All that considered, despite the manufactured moments, you can’t do reality TV and do it under the name people know you as (Kanesha Brookes is her real name, for the record), but expect them to be able to separate you from the way you present yourself every week. It’s true that it isn’t that deep, and it is just reality TV. But it is something to watch someone who is talented and has so much going for them, trade in showing off their vocal talents and inspiring others through their experiences for playing the ultimate Negative Nancy and Messy McGhee for some attention.
