Earlier this month, singer Tina Turner‘s first child, son Craig Raymond Turner, died of a reported suicide at the age of 59.

As we shared in that initial report, the Los Angeles coroner’s office stated that Craig, who worked in real estate, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was found in his Studio City, Calif. home on July 3. On that date, hours before Craig’s death, Tina, who lives in Switzerland as a Swiss citizen, was photographed in Paris attending the Giorgio Armani Privé Haute Couture fashion show. The photo featured above was from that event.

The 78-year-old didn’t put out a statement or say anything at all following this tragedy, but on Friday, she decided to break her silence about the loss of her beloved son on social media. The private star shared a photo of herself with husband Erwin Bach on a boat. She is seen preparing to drop a rose in the water. In the caption for the photo, she talks about her son.

“My saddest moment as a mother,” she said. “On Thursday, July 19 2018, I said my final goodbye to my son, Craig Raymond Turner, when I gathered with family and friends to scatter his ashes off the coast of California. He was fifty-nine when he died so tragically, but he will always be my baby.”

Craig was Tina’s son with fellow musician Raymond Hill. When they split and she married Ike Turner in 1962, Craig was adopted and took that last name.

He was Tina’s first of two biological sons. Her only child with Ike was son Ronnie, and she adopted Ike’s sons Michael and Ike, Jr.

It has been reported that Tina is filming a documentary about her life and producers of it say that “nothing will be off limits,” including the singer sharing thoughts on her firstborn’s life and death.

“Tina will address the loss of Craig in the project.”
