Loni Love has been working hard for some time to take better care of her health. And while we’ve seen the progress she’s made, she has a trick to keep herself encouraged for those times where she may not feel like the weight is coming off as quickly or as much as she would like. She shared the familiar trick with her followers.

The 47-year-old The Real co-host says she takes pictures of herself along her weight-loss journey to let her know that her hard work is paying off:

And such practices are perfect for keeping people encouraged when their weight-loss efforts are more than just losing 10 pounds for a special event or a few before a vacation. When it comes to working hard to slim down and maintain for the long-term or to lose a large amount of weight, taking notice of the small changes that eventually turn into big ones matters. And it helps Loni, who says that taking things slow and steady has paid off big for her. She lost 30 pounds this past spring.

“I just want to say to people out there that are struggling, whether you’re trying to gain weight or you’re trying to lose it, take your time,” she said. “It is no quick fixes. This summer I plan to concentrate on losing another 30 pounds, because the mistake I made last season, Season 4, was that I did a fast and I lost 50 pounds really fast. I ended up gaining about 70 because I didn’t do it healthy. Then the summer before this season I said, ‘You know what? I’m going to do something different. I’m going to take my time, I’m going to watch my portions, I’m going to exercise a little bit more and try to change my lifestyle.'”
