That Soul Train Awards Incident
While performing ahead of receiving the Lady of Soul Award at the 2016 Soul Train Awards, Brandy changed the words of her song “Talk About Our Love” to say, “It’s always something, talking ish again, then your whole fan base jumps in, now the whole ‘Grams buzzing…”
When people criticized Brandy over the performance, saying she was taking shots at Monica, her mom, Sonja Norwood, jumped in. Eventually, Brandy spoke her mind online to say that she “will never allow another person to belittle me publicly” and that she has “the discernment to know that that’s exactly what’s being done.”
