When WNBA star Candace Parker said “I do” to former NBA player Shelden Williams in 2008, it was two years after he was the fifth pick in the first round of the 2006 NBA draft. According to TMZ, over the span of his six seasons in the league, Williams made $12 million, which, if you’re smart about what you do with it, is a great deal of money. However, it’s Parker who is being asked to shell out a large alimony check in their divorce agreement.

She’s agreed to pay Williams a lump sum alimony check of $400,000 to avoid consistent support spousal payments.

As we previously reported, Parker and Williams were married for seven years and have an 8-year-old daughter named Lailaa. He filed for divorce in 2016 citing “irreconcilable differences.” At the time, he requested joint custody of their daughter, as well spousal support and for her to cover his attorney’s fees in the divorce. Parker reportedly makes “in the low 6-figures” as a Los Angeles Sparks player, but rakes in more than $1 million a year with endorsement deals (including Adidas and Gatorade), being a TV NCAA and NBA basketball commentator, and from playing abroad during the off-season over the years. She’s been playing professionally since 2008.

As for other agreements the former couple made to complete divorce proceedings, they decided to share the profits of their home in Encino, California, which they were able to sell for $3.75 million. And as for their daughter, they’ve decided to share joint custody and split the costs of childcare so that neither party will have to fork over child support.

While it’s unconventional to hear that Parker will have to pay a hefty alimony check to a former NBA star, by giving Williams a one-and-done check, she can finally move on and focus on positive co-parenting a lot quicker.
