Today is actress and comedian Mo’Nique’s 50th birthday. The big 5-0!

Mo’Nique Angela Hicks (formerly Imes) has come a long way from her days on The Parkers. She’s ditched the elaborate hairstyles (she should have been the spokeswoman for someone’s hairspray back in the day because her hair had hang time) and colorful ensembles that she was introduced to everyone in as Nikki Parker. She also left behind the weight she at one point fiercely embraced (cue Skinny Women Are Evil: Notes of a Big Girl in a Small-Minded World). In replacement, she found love again, married husband Sidney Hicks, had twin boys, lost more than 80 pounds and gained an Oscar. And while many things have changed for her, some things have stayed the same — her unabashed honesty. And isn’t that why we love her?

In honor of Mo’s 50th birthday, we thought we’d take a look back at her transformation over the years. She might have her issues here and there with Hollywood big-wigs (and the IRS reportedly), but the beauty seems to be living her most content life, just in time to reach this major milestone.
