“The Wanna Be On The Run So Bad:” Christina Milian And Lil Wayne Struggle To “Start A Fire” At The AMAs
Oh Weezy F Baby.
Last night we half-tuned in to the “American Music Awards” just to see who was there since we already knew there weren’t too many of us on the performance roster. But low and behold a surprise performance occurred and we’re not talking about the good kind of surprise that makes you thankful you watched a three-hour award show.
About two hours in to the AMAs, Lil Wayne hit the stage and brought his current bae of the month, Christina Milian, with him to debut the couple’s new song, “Start a Fire,” and we don’t mean to be rude but somebody needs to call the fire department. We know it’s been a while since Christina performed in front of a crowd that big, but ol’ girl came out looking like it was 2004 and she was ready to “Dip it Low” in a Japanese bath house again. And the vocals and stiff body movements? Let’s just say they both could’ve kept this duet to themselves. Watch the video below and see the struggle for yourself, but we think our Twitter follower summed it up best when she said: “They wanna be ON THE RUN soooo bad.” Sounds about right.
While most stars opted to wear black to the American Music Awards tonight, the show had more color than we expected — if you know what we mean. A ton of our favorite celebs stepped out for the AMA red carpet and we have to say many of them slayed. But as this sort of thing always goes, there were also a few whose looks made us ask, “girl, where are your friends?” Check out who stunned and who should’ve stayed home and tried again when it comes to the fashion. Weigh in in the comments section.
Who can argue with toned-down Nicki Minaj, especially when she hits the carpet looking like this? And we’re so happy she brought the bob back!
No matter what folks thought of T-Boz and Chilli teaming up with Lil Mama to do a tribute to Left Eye at the American Music Awards, all three of the ladies came back together to perform “No Scrubs” on Dancing With The Stars last night. Note: For all the people who are assuming she’s the new L in TLC, DWTS did say “TLC featuring Lil Mama,” and the women have made clear in the past that they don’t plan to replace Left Eye, so there you have it. For right now, she’s just helping them bring the energy on stage, as the tiny rapper didn’t even sing with the ladies or rap Left Eye’s verse (maybe to avoid criticism), she just helped them execute the classic dance moves. Unfortunately, there was a bit of lip-synching going on, but at least they had good energy and looked pretty good. TLC is of course working hard to promote their greatest hits album 20 and plan to release a new album in 2014 with longtime collaborator Dallas Austin.
When speaking on Sunday night’s performance at the AMAs, Lil Mama had this to say to Billboard:
“It’s a phenomenal experience. The girls tried to help me and prep me to preserve my energy and I ran out of breath. I was like, ‘I hope this doesn’t come across on TV crazy. Their late member, Left Eye, left a legacy and passionate energy that they created through out the years… To be apart of what they’re doing at this time, being that it’s an important time for them, and they asked me to come on board is breathtaking.”
Check out the full performance below (which starts at 4:50 and ends at 7:50) and let us know if you think their second time around performing was “breathtaking,” or at least better than their display at the AMAs.
Lady Gaga And R. Kelly Do Their Best Trapped In The Closet Parody With AMA Performance Of “Do What U Want”
If the Saturday Night Live performance wasn’t steamy enough, Lady Gaga and R. Kelly definitely put on an act of “Trapped In The Closet” meets David E. Talbert proportions with their performance of “Do What U Want” at the American Music Awards. With Kelly playing “President Kelly” and Gaga as his hot-to-trot assistant, the two got really close on a desk as she danced around in a shimmering bodysuit and blonde wig with her slew of backup dancers. It was cheesy in only the way that Gaga can get away with it, but boy was it entertaining! Folks can say what they want about Gaga, but no one can deny that she has an amazing singing voice. Check out the full performance below and let us know what you think.
We’re sure you didn’t, but just in case you missed it, this actually happened last night. Yes, Rihanna showed up to the American Music Awards with a doobie wrap on her head — a fierce one though, we might add. At first we thought Ri Ri just ran out of time trying to get her hair done before she unexpectedly won the “Best R&B Artist” award at the AMAs, but when she hit the stage later to perform before accepting her Icon Award with bedazzled bobby pins in her doobie wrap we knew it was on purpose.
Of course you know the Internet couldn’t let this go and we caught the most hilarious reactions to Rihanna’s hair at the AMAs, which stand as a reminder that Rihanna is the only woman who could pull this off.
Wear that doobie to work tomorrow cuz of rihanna and Pon De Unemployment line

If you’ve been tuning in to the American Music Awards, you’ve already seen a whole lot of shiny, satin-y, skin-tight, velvet-y looks that probably looked either incredible or terrible on the television screen. But we’ve pulled together all the ‘fits from some of our favorite stars who showed up and showed out at the awards tonight Let us know who killed it and who needs to go home early and come back next year with a new stylist.
She might not have stepped on the red carpet with her best accessory–her arm candy and fiancé Future, but Ciara turned heads all by herself in this J. Mendel gown (and she had that engagement ring flashing for the paps too). What are we thinking of the hair though? I’m getting an Anna Wintour feel from it, but otherwise, shawty is a 10!
As Rihanna would say…NO BASIC ZONE! And she’s definitely proved that she’s anything but basic, as the 25-year-old Bajan pop star will be honored by the American Music Awards on Sunday, Nov. 24, with the Icon Award. She’s the first to ever get it, as it’s the first year the special merit award has been offered. So what exactly is the Icon Award? According to AMA Producer Larry Klein (via The Los Angeles Times), it was created for this purpose:
“The first-ever Icon Award was created to honor an artist whose body of work has made a profound influence over pop music on a global level. Rihanna’s iconic and innovative sound has enabled her to become one of the most influential and bestselling artists of all time.”
And let’s not front, Rihanna definitely has a major influence in pop music on a global level. She’s sold out shows in Spain, Portugal, Turkey, England, South Africa and more during her recent Diamonds World Tour, and according to Rap-Up, has sold more than 50 million albums and 180 million singles worldwide. She is currently the best-selling digital artist of all time. With only seven albums, you might think that pegging her as an “Icon” might be a bit much, but she has accomplished quite a great deal. As she would say, that Rihanna reign just won’t let up, and the Navy won’t let it.
Rihanna will perform at the show live and collect her award at 8 p.m. on ABC. Other performers include Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, TLC, Katy Perry and more. The collective of Navy fans was very excited at the news about their queen picking up the Icon Award, while some others were critical of her receiving such an honor so fast (“Where are the awards for the “MEN”/woman who been in the game for 20 plus years?”). But what do you think?
Either way, congratulations!
Before we all took a break to chomp down on Turkey (or whatever it is that your familia eats in your home on Thanksgiving), fashionistas were trying to be seen on the red carpet at the 40th annual American Music Awards in Los Angeles this past Sunday. From sheer dresses to ensembles with a bright sheen, everybody did something different that turned heads. Now were the heads turning for good or bad reasons? Let’s take a look at four of the looks that caught my eye and figure it out!
Miss Kerry Ba-by (just kidding) arrived to the awards show rocking a very unique sheer Stella McCartney dress covered in floral details. Underneath the long-sleeved dress she wore a white slip and accessorized with coral pointed toe pumps and a small yellow clutch.
Though, per the usual, I would love if Kerry wore more form-fitting ensembles, once again, she does look great. The dress is a gorgeous color and the hair with the tucked curls is fab as well. Nice touch with the coral heels by the way. I would steal this and rock it any day!
There wasn’t an abundance of color at last night’s American Music Awards. But there was a moment where Psy, the South Korean creator of the internationally popular song and dance “Gangnam Style” performed the song that made him famous. In the midst of the high energy performance Psy introduced a special guest, the one and only MC Hammer. Check out the performance below.
The audience was certainly feeling it. Looking at this video, it’s hard to believe that Hammer is 50 years old. He hasn’t missed a step.
Nicki Minaj and Rihanna are flying pretty freaking high right now. Both ladies have snagged the most nominations for the upcoming American Music Awards with a total of four noms each.
