MadameNoire Featured Video

We don’t have to tell you that rappers seem to have a preoccupation with lighter skinned women. They’re all up in the videos, they’re the background dancers and in a lot of instances, they’re the same women who become girlfriends, wives etc.

Well, 2 Chainz is doing something different for his new video “Feds Watching.” As the father of brown skinned daughters, 2 Chainz explained why he made the decision to feature several dark skinned women in the video. Somebody spent a coin or two on this video because it’s lit very well and that brown skin is gleaming. 2 Chainz talked about his decision in an interview with MTV’s Sway. See what he had to say about working with real models, dark skinned women and our conditioning.

The type of look he wanted for the video…

“What I wanted in the video, was i wanted real models. I didn’t want Instagram models. I wanted women that were so pretty that they were so ugly and I wanted some women that were so ugly and that they were pretty. They know how to pose, they know how to take pictures. A lot of people when you meet a model out in public, you probably wouldn’t give her…she’s probably skinny, you know what I mean. Then you got four girls with booty shots walking in and you probably won’t understand the elegance and the classiness and he professionalism of these individuals.”

On rappers being brainwashed…

“We always get battered, us rappers, because we always talk about red girls, light-skinned girls. We’ve been brainwashed like little girls with baby dolls. I had to tell my little girl the other day, ‘So, I ain’t white?’ And I’m like ‘Girl, sit down.’ But she has all of these dolls and stuff like that, so it’s a part of the brainwashing.”

Why he cast these women…

“So, for the video I did try to go get the more darker skin and highlight them. My mom is a beautiful dark, skin lady. I’m dark skin. So it was just about trying to highlight, giving people that chance, that opportunity.”
