Despite whatever grievances I might have had with Season 4 as a whole of Being Mary Jane, I must admit that I was saddened to hear that the show will soon come to an end. And as we told you this week, by soon, I mean with a two-hour movie that will serve as a season finale next year.
The show has always been very entertaining and relatable. It’s also provided a lot of opportunities for stars, aside from Gabrielle Union, to be able to show off their talent with small roles that are sometimes quite significant. Check out 12 stars who were featured as guest stars on the series throughout its four seasons.

Tika Sumpter
Before she was the star of her own series, The Haves and the Have Nots, Tika Sumpter played shoe store worker Tonya in the Being Mary Jane movie/pilot that started the series. While keeping the store open late for Mary Jane, both women get a rude awakening when Mary Jane’s boyfriend, Andre, enters the shop with his wife, Avery.

Ava Duvernay
DuVernay appeared in Season 1 as herself and spoke to Mary Jane Paul about the prison industrial complex. This is something she would, of course, go on to make an award-winning documentary about with 13th.
The Ladies of the Real
The hosts appeared as themselves in the third season. They debated the romantic decisions of Mary Jane after she was spotted getting cozy with a white suitor.

Jill Scott
Jill Scott appeared on the show in Season 3 as Jackie, Niecy’s mother and an accomplished hairstylist. She reconnected, at least sexually, with Niecy’s father, Patrick, during her appearance. However, she wouldn’t offer handout opportunities to Niecy, who has been trying to be a stylist for some time on the show, this despite Jackie being an absent mom.

Ludacris
Who could forget Ludacris’s character of Terrence Mitchell in Season 1? Mitchell, who was a friend of Mary Jane’s, had been exposed by her as a fraudulent journalist in his attempts to fight the prison system. He couldn’t deal with the shame of the situation, and soon after, killed himself. It was one death (but not the last), that MJ would feel somewhat responsible for.

Wayne Brady
Brady played Sean Anders in Season 1. He was a possible suitor for Mary Jane that she met online. And while he was a better option than a very married Andre or an occupied David, what with his lighthearted sense of humor, they both knew things weren’t going to go anywhere.

Kelly Rowland
The singer appeared in Season 3 as Robin, one of the few other Black female anchors on TV. While MJ was reporting fluff pieces because SNC wanted to avoid controversy, her friends were doing hard news (and getting their stylists paid for!).

India Arie
Arie appeared in Season 2 as herself, alongside MJ and Michaela Angela Davis to discuss Black women, our beauty and self-worth on Talk Back.

Gayle King
King appears as herself in Season 2. She covers things at SNC as Mary Jane goes to a fertility specialist to get her eggs frozen and her checkup is shared on Talk Back (but she doesn’t get the best results on camera).

Lorraine Touissant
The actress appeared as Mary Jane’s aunt, Toni, in Season 1 — the younger sister of Paul Patterson. Mary Jane goes to visit her no-nonsense aunt’s home for dinner to get some clarity on how to deal with her affair with Andre and his marriage proposal.

Kyle Massey
In Season 2, the actor played Cameron, the “young, swaggering, out-of-touch father of Niecy’s baby, Treyvion, who transfers to a local college when his scholarship money runs out.” He bumps heads with Niecy over his parenting skills and the time he’s missed in Trevyion’s life — until he ends up bumping uglies with Niecy and gets caught by Mary Jane.

Cardi B
The rapper appeared in Season 4 as a rachet reality star named Mercedes Mary Jane chooses to interview on Great Day USA. When Cardi’s character disses MJ on camera, she takes our star out of her element. Mary Jane ends up cussing out Mercedes and goes viral when she doesn’t realize she’s being recorded having her tantrum. The incident actually helps up MJ’s stature at work since she taps into what gets the Internet’s attention — and ratings.
