Yesterday, I was invited by Dove to experience their new invisible dry spray antiperspirant. The deodorant promises up to 48 hours of odor and wetness protection which I’m currently testing out at this very moment and it leaves no visible marks on 100 different colors which I can attest to, as personal stylist Zerina Akers took a can and sprayed it right over a beautiful orange linen dress and no residue was left. For a girl who basically has to keep a wet cloth by her front door to wipe off deodorant stains before she leaves the house every day, this is a big deal. Oh, and it smells amazing and doesn’t leave any sticky, wet, gooey feeling under your armpits.

What was also pretty cool was getting styled by Zerina who put me in a Demestik by Reuben Reuel jacket, distressed Cello jeans, and a pair of Valentino pumps for my very own photoshoot.

She also gave me a few tips on how to successfully pair colorful prints this spring and named three things you need in your closet for the season.

What trends are in this season?

Color! The more the merrier, the brighter, the better, that’s the rule — color blocking with monochromatic looks especially. With prints, I’m constantly mixing and matching prints or figuring out how to incorporate different cultural prints for sure. Another tip is accessorizing. With that, it’s not necessarily the more the merrier or less is more, it’s just really about achieving balance and space — like hanging pictures on a wall, that’s how I like to think of it.

What are the rules to mixing prints?

A rule of thumb to start is picking colors that complement. If it’s a teal item you can do an orange print to go with it. So starting with color coordination for sure will make it a lot easier. Also a larger print contrasting a smaller print sometimes can have a beautiful turnout.

Kitten heels or nah? (Asking for a friend)

My rule of thumb is find a shoe that works for you. I don’t judge people that wear kitten heels because what was on the runway last season? What is everyone pushing now? What are all the celebrities wearing? Kitten heels. Whatever goes around comes right back around. I still wear platforms and chunky heels because I need that support when I’m on my feet all day. Comfort is key.

What are three must-have items for your spring/summer wardrobe

First off, starting the day off with no white marks via the Dove invisible dry spray antiperspirant is key. It’s a great summer wardrobe base. Then, great fitting jeans, because it’s just necessary. Some women stray away from them but for the most part there is a pair out there for everyone.

I’d also say a jacket. I’m a huge fan of dusters at the moment because it’s something that’s transitional for the seasons, even in the summer if it’s a little cooler at night or you’re going into the movie theater and it’s cold. It’s something that women of all shapes and sizes can wear if they want to minimize their hips or accentuate their body. It’s a really great piece for everyone to have.
