The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is easily one of the most anticipated runway extravaganzas of the year and last night the annual event spread its wings to the city of lights, hosting its first show in Paris. But that’s not the only first Victoria celebrated.

A couple of days ago we found out that, thanks to Maria Borges‘ bravery at last year’s show, this time around models weren’t being forced to wear extensions. Instead the show promised to take a “carefree approach to the length and type of curl” on the models and “embrace” the winged womens’ natural hair. What we didn’t know when we heard that news was that there’d be so many women of color to whom this applied.

Last night, the runway was aglow with Black girl magic. There were several women of color among the 51 models that walked in the show, 12 of whom were Black, including Joan Smalls, Maria Borges, Afro-Brazilian Lais Ribeiro, Zuri Tibby, Harieth Paul, Alanna Arrington, Cindy Bruna, Leomie Anderson, Jourdana Phillips, Dominican newcomer Dilone, Lameka Fox, and Jasmine Tookes who wore the highlight of the night: The Victoria’s Secret fantasy bra fit with 9,000 gemstones and worth $3 million. According to USA Today she’s the “third Black angel chosen to wear the coveted bra.” And that’s just one of the standout moments of Black girl slayage at last night’s show.
