Season 2 of the WE tv reality show Growing Up Hip Hop debuted early last month, and in an upcoming episode, Angela Simmons shares the life-changing news with big sister Vanessa that she’s pregnant. Of course, we know that Simmons went on to have baby Sutton Joseph with fiancé Sutton Tennyson in September and is complete mommy bliss right now. But when she initially shared the news on camera, she seemed more stressed than anything else. And as for Vanessa, the news left her almost speechless. As she put it, “Not that I’m not really excited for her, because this is a really big moment and a really big time, but things moved kind of fast.”

What made Angela’s announcement all the more interesting was how she says that she ended up carrying a child. With social media followers allegedly calling her a hypocrite since she had publicly proclaimed for years that she was a virgin, the young socialite and entrepreneur decided to put it all out there. She shared that after meeting and falling in love with Tennyson, she lost her virginity. According to her, her very first time, she got pregnant.

“Engagement, getting married, kid — it’s so crazy,” Angela said. “You would think it would happen in a different order but this is the order it happened in and this is what it is.”

Angela said that because she had been very open in the past about wanting to remain a virgin, people were having a hard time accepting that she had become pregnant. In an interview with the Breakfast Club in January she even confidently said, “Who’s gonna trap me? I’m not having sex until I get married so they’re not gonna get me pregnant. I’m really smart. So nobody’s trapping me.”

Because of that, people were saying all kinds of hurtful things online.

“I’ve never been with a guy before Sutton, so they’re looking at me like, ‘How could you be pregnant?'” she said. “By what? Immaculate conception?’ No one’s understanding.”

She continued in her confessional, “People are concerned about me being a virgin. I’m not a virgin anymore, obviously, if I’m pregnant. I met the man that I want to be with forever and something happened. It didn’t happen the way I thought it would happen and that’s just what it is.”

The good news is, as I know many people wondered what her father, Rev Run, would have to say about her pregnancy, her parents were “super excited” at the idea of becoming grandparents again.

But Angela was still coming to terms with how everything had happened so unexpectedly.

“What are the odds?” she said to Vanessa. “First time, boom! You’re pregnant. Oh, okay. Great.”

Vanessa was a little skeptical at the idea that it was her very first roll in the hay, cocking her head to the side and saying, “First time?”

“Mhmm,” Angela responded. “It’s pretty intense.”

Hey, it can happen. Check out the very interesting conversation for yourself below and share your thoughts.
