Being an integral part of nightlife for just a summer is so much fun. You can make hundreds of dollars of tips in a night, and you develop a great camaraderie with your coworkers. But your partner probably won’t want men putting singles in your bra.

Living in a co-op
Living in a co-op, in dormitory style rooms, where you share the cleaning and cooking duties with dozens or hundreds of your peers and throw parties together is really fun (and budget friendly!!) But it’s not conducive to a relationship.

If you’re straight, and you’ve ever been curious about what it’s like to be with another woman, you’ll probably need to do that before you settle down. Your partner probably considers it infidelity, even if it’s with the same gender.

Burning man and similar festivals
If you are a “burner” couple who lives for these events, that’s one thing. But if you’re a woman who works a 9 to 5, usually spends her weekends hiking or knitting and just wants to try a few of these events, I’d do it now. They’re full of nude people on drugs having orgies..and they don’t a lot of the things on this list.

It can be incredibly liberating to live with nothing but the clothes on your back for a few months, surfing couches, exchanging a little labor for meals and beer. But you’d be hard pressed to find a partner who was comfortable with you doing that.

Volunteering somewhere that desperately needs your help
If you crave a fully immersive volunteer experience, like living in an orphanage in a third world country and teaching the children, you should do it now. It’ll be hard to leave your partner for several months later.

I think every woman should patronize a good number of strip clubs in her day. It’s an experience that teaches you about body confidence–you’ll see women of all shapes and sizes take that pole. Your partner, however, won’t love you frequenting these places.

Going on a solo road trip
Don’t book a hotel–stay in roadside motels. Grab a drink at a local watering hole. Chat with the old men who’ve been going there for decades. Hike the unbeaten path. Just don’t do it when you have a boyfriend at home who is A) worried about you and B) Wondering why he wasn’t invited.

Working at a resort/on a cruise ship
If you’re ever unemployed and not sure what to do, work for a few months at an all-inclusive resort or on a cruise. The staff becomes really close, and it usually means living in a gorgeous place for a while.
